I believe it is super important that all students partake in the creation of the classroom rules as this holds the entire group more accountable.

With that we will use the first week of class to get to know one another and create these class rules. I want every student to feel their voice is being heard as well as feel responsible for what is considered appropriate behavior in the class. 

After this takes place, I will post an update of our class rules!

With that, there will have to be consequences for misbehaving or disruptive behavior. Below is the process of how inappropriate behavior will be handled:

1st Offense: The student will first receive a warning. They will get an opportunity to talk privately with me to discuss why he or she acted in that manner.

2nd Offense: The student will receive a note home so his or her parents/guardians become informed of the behavior taking place by that student

3rd Offense: A student, teacher, parents/guardians conference will take place

4th Offense: The student will be placed on detention

5th Offense: The student may be placed on suspension with the school 

Bad behavior may simply come from having a bad day or waking up in a not so good mood. With that, I will have grace and patience with students, but am asking for honesty and open communication so I can ensure the student is not staying in that bad place, or at least why they are acting the way they are. Our classroom will have a designated safe space where students can go to if they are in a negative mindset or are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. This is a place that I hope students will use only for those purposes and not to simply be distracted from their work. I will be sure to meet with each student who goes to that space to ensure they are alright and can talk to someone if they feel comfortable.

La mala conducta puede deberse simplemente a tener un mal día o despertarse de muy buen humor. Con eso, tendré gracia y paciencia con los estudiantes, pero estoy pidiendo honestidad y comunicación abierta para asegurar que el estudiante no se quede en ese mal lugar, o al menos por qué están actuando como son. Nuestra clase tendrá un espacio seguro al que irán los estudiantes si tienen una mentalidad negativa o se sienten estresados ​​o abrumados. Este es un lugar que espero que los estudiantes utilicen solo para esos fines y que no se distraiga simplemente de su trabajo. The process for how good behavior will be rewarded is explained below:


THE STAR SYSTEM!

-Throughout each month, students who are conducting themselves in an outstanding manner will receive various pieces of paper, which will be referred to as "stars". Once a student reaches 10 stars, that student can choose something from the "Spotlight Box". This box will include various prizes including gift cards, coupons for extra credit points, lunch passes, and more!

Students will also have the opportunity to complete an extra credit assignment every month. If a student chooses to submit this extra credit assignment, they will receive 3 stars automatically. 

I can't wait to see all my wonderful students take advantage of this fun opportunity to win prizes for being such great contributors to the class!
