So, development is defined as a pattern of change that begins at conception and continues through the lifespan. My collage represents a mix of biological, cognitive, and socioemotional processes that have shaped my unique path. The first photo is wrestling, which represents a significant socioemotional process, as the discipline I gained through the sport changed my personality and how I relate to challenges. This relates to the nature and nurture issue; while I may have a natural drive, the "nurture" of a rigorous athletic environment determined how that drive manifested into way more. Similarly, for my fourth photo being raised to value hard work and financial success highlights the role of sociocultural contexts in my development, my parents are immigrants and they've sacrificed a lot to get me to where I am today, so I feel obligated to make them proud. My experiences with trauma, such as car crashes and near drowning, bring the early and later experience issue to lightt. These events aren't just memories, but they are also experiences that are a huge part of my growth. Conversely, my experiences with heartbreak occurred during middle and high school, even now in college!! A period of transition into early adulthood characterized by intense emotional change. By looking at these photos, I can see that my growth is not just a result of age, but of cohort effects and the specific era in which I am becoming an adult. Understanding child development allows me to gain insight into how these specific childhood and adolescent experiences have shaped the person I am today, and I also want to do a better job for my children, so they don't have it as rough, but also learn.
