When picking the topic I immediately navigated to Greek Mythology because it is something that I love to learn and hear stories about, their stories of creation and their Gods and Goddesses are like no other and give many opportunities for interpretation and inspiration. But at the same time it was also challenging since there is no easy-to-get concepts and writing the creation and war of titans in a way for the reader to easier understand was challenging. I also doubted my choice of the topic but knowing that it meant a lot to me and the topic of sons inheriting their father's character or just a person becoming what they hate is an interesting observation of us as humans. Picking and organising the five words were challenging at first but then it was easier to place them, forming the sentences was also challenging to me. Seeing the structure it holds throughout the plot of the book points out the popular tale of someone achieving success from nothing and basking in it, propogating the "American Dream" that the US is so proud of. This alone would come as hypocritical to her final statement because poets are still working hard, even though their track of thinking isn't as easier to spot as that of an artist or a scientist, it doesn't mean that after two tries they will immediately get what they want. It can be a common misconception of a poet to be an easy job that doesn't earn any money, which ends up cultivating the subconscious social taboo of being a poet. In the beginning Szymborska compares a philosopher to a poet, how "Professor of philosophy: now that sounds more respectable." because poetry is not "an occupation requiring specialised study.". even if poetry would become more respectable if it became a specialised area of study it would lose its own true essence, it won't be "enough to cover pages with even the most exquisite poems in order to become a poet.", making people afraid of writing poetry and expressing themselves through a medium they know best, language. Even in more fortunate places, "poets yearn, of course , to be published, read, and understood, but they do little, if anything, to set themselves above the common herd and daily grind.". While to the person who does not know the process that happens behind the making of a poem, it may seem like writing poetry is something that can be easily done well by anyone who can speak the language they are writing in, but Szymborska points out this misjudgement in her speech. By comparing the process of writing poetry to creating other forms of art, she reveals to us the "ugly" process that does not seem as aesthetically appealing as other methods would look. It is hard to track down the exact thoughts of an artist creating a sincere work, but poets are not any easier. As Szymborksa describes, it is just a patter of looking into empty space for 20 minutes to only the write down a couple of lines or which some will be later crossed out in minutes, and the cycle repeats until the poet is satisfied.

Wislawa describes "the moss grown guard in golden slumber." to illustrate the previous point of us growing old where as the objects surrounding us remain triumphant over outlasting us. The use of enjambment in "Exhibit number.../ eight" shows us the slow pace at which Wislawa tours us through the museum while questioning its possessions in a metaphysical tone, once again reinforcing the point of how slowly time can move around us whilst aging. Even though the guard may have also aged, he still does not gain the value that the artefacts surrounding him do. This is still continued to be questioned as the purpose of ancient Greek plays was to teach the audience moral lessons, what was Medea teaching us? Was it the idea of justice and Hamartia? Or the underestimation of the female population?

Before Medea was present in the story of her husband and his chase after the golden fleece, Jason and the Argonauts. In that tale were are shown the powerful character that Medea is, she went as far as killing her own father and brother and simultaneously betraying her home in order to help Jason find the fleece. The relief would come from the understanding that realistically no one in the real world would have to go through something like this, but the concern arises from the fact that despite murdering four people Medea seems to escape Corinth unharmed and safe. But perhaps to most troubling is that we are still able to sympathise with her and to an extent understand her motive. 

Medea also makes us question justice of our society, how do we control it and how do we determine what acts will be seen as justified?
