Watson concedes the ways in which men have been victimised by noting how "fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating", supporting them by saying "this needs to stop". As such, Watson appeals to the men in the audience who are inclined to disagree with her by showing them support. This is also continued as she notes how men can't show their feelings due to sexism, in turn highlighting how feminism can benefit men also.

Watson employs personal anecdote to reflect on her own experiences as a woman. This is effective as her examples tie her speech back to the real world and remind her audience of the reality of everyday sexism and its negative effects, in turn causing them to agree that feminism is a reasonable thing to turn to. Indeed, she uses cause and effect to highlight how her experiences as a woman have turned her into a feminist –– that is, that feminism is bred by sexism

watson's speech is nuanced in that she also discusses how feminism has been bastardised by society –– reduced to "man-hating" and, by design, a taboo label. she condemns those who have stigmatised the idea of being a feminist, and rather suggests that feminism is reasonable and simple. she questions "the word has become such an uncomfortable one" when feminism is reasonably and simply fighting for women's equality.

Emma Watson repeats the phrase "I think that it is right" in order to state what she believes in as a feminist. This is effective as she lists a multitude of statements regarding the "right" way women should be treated, which positions the audience to not only understand the gender equality feminists are fighting for, but to also see the unfair treatment women endure. This acts as an effective call to action, as the audience is encouraged too to recognise the inequality and fight for change.

Watson attempts to engage with those who might disagree with her by acknowledging how feminism is now viewed as "synonymous with man-hating". By doing so, she recognises people who disagree with her's point of view and that term feminism has drifted away from its true meaning. However, by defining the word feminism as "the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities", she positions them to reconsider what feminism actually is, as she urges for the association of feminism and man-hating "to stop".

Watson's speech demonstrates nuance and sophistication as rather than explicitly stating the unequal treatment and opportunities given to men and women, through the use of anecdotes about herself and her friends Watson demonstrates ways the gender inequality have impacted both the lives of men and women. These anecdotes subtly enable the audience to understand how the gender inequality influences real people's lives without them truly even noticing.

Watson states that "at 18 [her] male friends could not express their feelings". Through this, she positions her older readers to feel that all young people are being impacted by gender stereotypes, and as such, compels them to feel that mindsets need to change

Her anecdotes positions readers to feel that sexism is a serious issue that must be fixed, and as such, readers are positioned to feel that they should be a feminist in order to stop women from having these experiences.

Watson does not directly criticise any particular group, and rather suggests that sexism negatively affects everyone. Through this, she establishes an imploring rather than critical tone and positions readers to feel included, and that it is in everyone's interest for feminism to become more widespread. In addition, it makes her appear more balanced, and thus compels her readers who may believe that feminism is man-hating, that feminism is simply the belief that men and women are equal, and prompts them to label themselves as a feminist.
