Levels of Hierarchy - Organ and Organ System (biggest)

One of the two organs of the nervous system is but of course, the brain. The brain works as the powerhouse to run by every single signal, impulse, and thought that might run through your system on a day to day basis. The different layers and sections of the brain allow for the neurons to separate between what their function (i.e. motor neuron goes to the motor cortex) so that it creates a faster and more efficient way of sending out signals. The nervous system as a whole: the brain, the spinal cord, and all of the nerve endings throughout your muscles and body, are durable and also thin to ensure that there will always be a way to reach that part of the body. The spinal cord is also surrounded by bones to guarantee protection so that each part of your body receives the signals from your brain and down to the spinal cord.

Order: Molecular, Cellular, Tissue, Organ, Organ System, Organism.

This order can be displayed on the cockroach, because it shows that no matter what kind of living creature you are, a human or a bug, the levels of hierarchy are still the same in that the molecules are the smallest and the organ system is the biggest, other than the actual organism itself. These models allow us to understand how complex our body systems really are, and that within every layer, there are even smaller molecules, cells, or tissues to make up each organ and each organ system.

The cockroach's lack of pain receptors in the body do not allow for the roach to feel the pain that it is being put through. For example, if in the event of an emergency situation and their homeostasis is off balance, such as when they get injured, they have the capability of eating their leg off to restore that homeostasis. Therefore, they do not have pain receptors so that they can easily numb themselves to not feel the pain of losing a leg. Also, due to their open circulatory system, they are able to leave about a week without their head, since they have other segments to breathe through other than their nose or mouth. Therefore, even without a head, the homeostasis is maintained because of the strength of their entire body instead of being dependent on a certain organ.
