Betrayed
By P.C. Cast+ Kristin Cast
Five stars
I read Betrayed .This book was amazing and it always kept my attention. It's a book about where its pretty much our world but where there are vampires. And don't get the wrong idea it's not Twilight. But it's about a fledgling named Zoey who is pretty much the most powerful fledgling in the history of the world.

The book leads you to believe many things but most of the time it's just a trick and reveals what you thought all along was wrong. This is a story about a spy in the Hitler Youth in Nazi Germany after the Battle of Stalingrad.

Land of Stories: Worlds Collide
Chris Colfer
3.5/5 stars
"Land of Stories: Worlds Collide," the 6th and final book in the Land of Stories series written by Chris Colfer, is a 3.5/5 stars in my opinion. The plot and writing are fun and engaging, with twists and turns at every few flips of pages.
This series follows two siblings, Alex and Connor Bailey, who travel to a world from a book called "The Land of Stories." There, they meet all of the characters (villains alike) from the Brothers' Grimm fairytales in one place.
The reason why I liked the book was because it was simple and easy to understand, making it enjoyable for children and adults alike. But for that reason, I also disliked the book because it was too simple, some parts easy to guess what will happen and I got pretty much nothing out of it. No vocabulary, idioms, etc. (Jokes, riddles, catchphrases, pick-up lines...) The book allowed me to enjoy the feeling of being alongside the protagonists, experiencing the events unfold in the eyes of another person. It had made me want to have the same events happening to my world. Overall, "Land of Stories: Worlds Collide" is a decent book and i would recommend it to some people, maybe not others. The series ended with a bang, and just like a Brothers' Grimm story, a "happily ever after."

Looking for Alaska is about a boy named Miles "Pudge" who moves from a Florida high school to Culver Creek Boarding School in Alabama. There, he makes new friendships better than anything back in Florida. He falls into what would be the 'troubled' crowd. He and his friends pull off pranks against the rich kids called "the Weekday Warriors".
This book was a 4.8/5 stars from me. The only reason it's missing those two tenths of a point is because there are some graphics scenes I didn't particularly want to read. And closing your eyes doesn't work when reading books, so just beware.

The story is about a 11 year old girl who solves murders through careful deductions and scientific experiments. The way Alan Bradley wrote this book makes you feel as though you're the one trying to catch the killer. The book keeps you on the edge of you're seat in some cases, and makes it almost impossible to put down (in my opinion.) I recommend this book to the people who love murder mysteries and witty humor.

The stories tell how something came to be (How the camel got his hump for example.) Some of the stories are entertaining but since it was written in an older time period it can say things that can be considered offensive this day and age. Why I read this book is I have always loves fables and how they explain things in a way tat is very different than reality.

Prodigy
Marie Lu
Rating:4.7/5
This is a book about two people from totally different lives meeting. They find out some crucial information that puts them against the law. One of them gets arrested and they have to help him without getting killed. I rated this book a 4.7/5 because it was full of action. You could also relate to the characters and really fall in love with them, this makes it impossible to not read the next books in the series. Although the beginning is a little confusing and you probable wont understand it until you keep reading.

The story follows Geralt, a witcher, who kills monsters for pay as he travels the world looking for any chance to make a coin or two. The book does a good job of keeping you in the dark about where you are and what time it is. Also, the first 3/4 of the book feel like a prologue to last 3 or 4 chapters. Other than that the author does a good job with describing certain actions or moments. I think the author does ascents especially well. All in all if you are a reader that likes an engaging story The Last Wish isn't for you.

The Magicians Nephew is where Digory and Polly witness the creation of Narnia. The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe is where four kids named Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy go to Narnia and they have to defeat the Ice Witch. Prince Caspian is when the 4 kids come back and hundreds of years have gone by and Narnia is in ruins. The 4 have to recapture Narnia from the Telmarines with the help of Prince Caspian. The Voyage of The Dawn Treader is when Lucy, Edmund, and their cousin Eustis cross the ocean to find the lost kings of Narnia. The Horse and His Boy is when a boy named Shasta and a talking horse named Bree find away to Archenland and warn the king of an invasion. The Silver Chair is when Eustis and Jill have to rescue Caspians son from an evil witch before Caspian dies. The Last Battle is where Jill, Eustis, Lucy (sadly no Susan), Edmund, Peter, Digory, and Polly all witness the end of Narnia.
I like these books because they have a lot of fantasy and made up characters.

Replica
Lauren Oliver
Rating: 4.5/5

This book that I read has two parts to it, which follow two different main characters. But they meet up at the end. One part is named Gemma, after the main character. The plot of this part is that Gemma, the main character is living a normal life when she has a interesting encounter a pretty sketchy guy who says some weird stuff. After personal investigation he turns out to be an ex-employee from her fathers company. After that, she has the thirst for knowledge about what her dads company really was. But it soon turns into a much deeper thing than she thought. When she stumbles across two replicas (basically clones) and one that eerily looks like her.
The second part of this story follows one of the replicas in Haven Academy (Her name is Lyra) which is basically a big test lab where a bunch of replicas are held captive and they die all the time and they are not treated well at all. She has always wanted to be a human because she thinks god will love her then. The nurses at Haven say that all the replicas are abominations and deserve to go to hell where they belong because they have no souls.

Moo
By Sharon Creech
Rating 3.9/5
Moo is a novel about a family that moves from the city to Maine. Twelve - year - old Reena and her younger brother Luke begin working for one of their neighbors, an elderly woman named Mrs. Falala. Mrs. Falala is quite and interesting person, with a pet pig named Paulie, a cat named China, Edna the snake, and a bitter cow, named Zora. Reena and Luke are drawn in everyday to Mrs.Falala. Her harsh sayings soon soften up, as she opens up to the children. As Reena continues to work on the farm, she begins to like the chores, the mud, even Zora. Reena will do anything to be able to tame Zora, and not get headbutted to the ground every time she comes within 10 feet of the cow. This book contains a large sum of poetic pages. Some pages are filled with multiple onomatopoeias, spread out in different sizes, fonts, even in shapes of what the onomatopoeia represents ( a rain drop ). The writing in this calmed me for some reason, it wasn't boring, it's writing was quite good, and the plot wasn't bland. I wish Creech had gone more into Reena's city life, and her adventures with Luke across Maine. I feel it would have made the book richer and more entertaining.

Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus by Dusti Bowling
5/5 stars
This is a story filled with hope, humor and humaneness. The lead character, Aven was born without arms and one would think this fact would color her world in a very negative way but it doesn’t. Her parents have taught her to be self-sufficient and to take one problem at a time and she generously shares this philosophy with the new friends she makes as she moves from Kansas to the desert of Arizona to help run an old rundown amusement park. Stagecoach Pass, the amusement park, is peppered with mystery and Aven and her 2 new friends work to unlock them. Aven’s story unfolds as we grow to love her and see how living life with disabilities is challenging and acceptance is a continual goal.

This book gets 5 out 5 stars. Aven is a character that made me laugh out loud. She spins wild tales about how she has come to be armless. People’s reactions to these stories along with the stories themselves made me want to meet Aven. I also fell in love with her because she never “judged a book by its cover”. Every person she meets in the story is showered in kindness and a true optimism that I feel could change our world if more people subscribed to it. I know it seems most YA books are about not bullying and not prejudging others, this book does not fall into that overused category and is worth your time. It is a quick read that warmed my heart and made me see how living life with disabilities of any sort is tough but attitude is everything. Plus the title, right? How can one resist such an interesting title?

I read the book Me And The Devil Blues by Walter Ellis.I give this graphic novel 10/10. This graphic novel is about a man who wants to be the best guitar player where he lives but the thing is, he’s not really good so he goes to the crossroads and sells his soul to the devil in order to make him the best guitar player but some unexpected things happen after he did that. One night when he is playing the guitar a man walked into the bar and heard his music and brought him to a wealthy household to play his instrument and he was horrified when he looked down.

I loved this graphic novel because there is so much detail put into the pictures and the way character talks and the way the picturers connect to each other make the story come together. I also like the plot of the story on how when you sell your soul to the devil or if you sell anything to the devil there's always something unexpected that happens. There's also a lot of action in this graphic novel on how he has the idea of selling his soul to the devil and how he meets the man that takes him to the wealthy family and that makes it really interesting .The graphic novel also makes you see the pictures moving well that's at least how I saw it, it kind of makes a movie in your mind because the pictures are so detailed and to big and understanding and that's a big part on why I liked the graphic novel so much.I think graphic novel readers would love this book and so would people who like mysterious books and I definitely think if people like the first one they'll read the second one.

Replica
Lauren Oliver
4.4/5
Replica by Lauren Oliver was one of the best books I have read this year. The genre is science fiction. The story tells of two girls, one a normal human, Gemma, and one a replica, or clone, Lyra, at Haven, which is a remote hospital where doctors test on the Replicas. When Gemma suffers a near fatal accident she is motivated to find Haven, and Lyra. Meanwhile Lyra escapes Haven and she goes out to the world. When she escapes soldiers are sent after her to take her back or kill her.

This book was very interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the book. I felt this because the author would always add a close call whenever I relaxed and I was like “whoa dude” and it surprised me. Like when the group arrived at a motel and they started to relax they all of sudden they were being attacked and had to run away. I never lost attention or felt bored, it was fast paced and had a good mystery in it, I rate it 4.5/5. I highly recommend this book

In this book Kylie is attending shadow falls boarding school which was just recently change into the boarding school from Shadow Falls Camp for troubled teens. In this book Kylie has to face her biggest challenge yet between her family, romance problems and a ghost saying that she is going to have to kill someone.

I gave this story five stars because it moves at a reasonable pace, the story line keeps you hooked by keeping constant action or suspense and because it ties a little bit of every book genre into the book. The book also has lovable characters like Della Tsang, Perry Gomez, and good old Burnett James each character is loveable because they all have some little quirkiness to them. Each character teaches you something different like Miranda who teaches you to just keep trying to do your best and eventually it will pay off or Della who teaches stand up for yourself and others. I also gave it a 5 because once some mystery is solved some new mystery starts. I would recommend the whole series this is the last book.

Unbroken
Laura Hillenbrand
Rating 4.5/5
The non- fiction story of Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand Is a suspenseful emotional book. Unbroken is about a boy named Louis Zamperini, Louis was a very mischievous young boy, he would do drugs and drink. Louis would oftentimes be found by the cops and brought home to his mother who as you would guess was not very happy plus they were an Italian family which didn’t go well with the others in the town at the time. Pete (louis’s older brother) made him join the track team as an attempt to get him away from delinquency, And sure enough it worked. Louis wasn’t just an okay runner he was amazing so amazing that he went to the olympics! But, shortly after Louis was drafted onto a plane crew in WWII where his plane crashes in the middle of the ocean! Will Louis and 2 others on the crew survive the long grueling days to come on a raft in the middle of the ocean with nothing to eat and drink?

I personally loved the book and think you will to! The book gets a little long at times like when louis is on the boat but the author hooks you right back in with another crazy occurrence! The author goes into great detail most of the time and made me feel like I was actually there at times which really helped me stay into reading the book on the plane and on vocation. I would give the book a 4.5 out of 5 because at times the book would get a little long at times when they were on the boat. The overall story was very emotional and crazy. I never knew what the human body was capable of. Louis’s incredible story will get you off your seat and biting your nails to see what happens next.

My favorite book I read this year was There’s Someone In Your House by Stephanie Perkins. The book is mainly from Makani Young’s perspective. She lived in a small, quiet town where bad things rarely happened. Suddenly, people at Makani’s high school mysteriously start getting murdered. Kind, quiet people who had it all going for them. Makani Young and her friend, Ollie Larson, start investigating who the killer is and why they’re killing people. I would give this book a 5/5, with 5 being the best and 0 being the worst, because I was always interested and excited. The author gave a lot of detail throughout the book and when the scary parts came, the details made me feel like I was there, in person in the book. I loved this book because it had me on the edge of my seat and it made me a little scared while reading it. This book kept surprising me and I was always captivated and very engrossed. This book is like The Girl I Used To Be by April Henry. It is a romance as well as a mystery, just like There’s Someone In Your House.

The Hunger Games; Mockingjay
Suzanne Collins
5/5 Stars
The Hunger Games series was by far my favorite book series of all time, but the last book out shined the others immensely with its twists, turns and surprises. The Hunger Games; Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is the third book in the series, and picks up right where the second one ends. Katniss Everdeen continues her journey within the corrupt country of Panam where annual “Hunger Games” are executed yearly. The Hunger Games are when 24 tributes (12 girls and 12 boys) a boy and a girl from each district are put into a large arena where they have to battle it out until only one person is alive. The Hunger Games exist because the districts rebelled against the capital 75 years earlier, and lost. It is very similar to the Divergent series in that it is classified as action and adventure also including romance.

This book gets a 5/5 stars because it showed me that anyone could be anyone. Katniss was an irrelevant person in an irrelevant district but she showed the districts there was hope for a revolution, by being brave and volunteering for her sister, making a fool out of the Capital with the berries and escaping the arena. She showed the rebels that the Capital was terrible people and they needed to stop them to protect their future generations. She roused hundreds of rebels and all she was was an irrelevant hunter.

This book is about a Hip-Hop star many of you may know and his hardships growing up in zone 6 Atlanta with no father and battling the pressure to fall into a drug revolving world. Eventually rising to stardom becoming one of the most prolific record selling artists ever.

I think this book is one of a kind because there are no other books out there like this one. I say that because the author Gucci Mane takes you into his culture and tells what he went through and how hard it was growing up . For example he tells the story of when he was five his father teaches him a lesson. The lesson involves turning in 10 dollars and getting 20 dollars back tricking the cashier . Clearly with a father that has these types of influences on him it was tough growing up in Gucci’s shoes. I think that him sharing that takes you into his personal life and after the reading this you will get to know Gucci Mane. Also overall it made me like his music more. I am giving this book a 5/5. And for anyone who enjoys hip hop music like me I would recommend this book to you.

The book I decided to pic was The Scorch Trials
by James Dashner
I rate this 5/5
this is the second book in the series. The book started with the people from the maze in a house than slowly things get worse they introduced a enemy called Cranks. They were pretty much zombies and they were screaming and saying kill us it was really creepy than little bit down the road they were in a city and then there was people who were close to killing the runners than they made a deal now they are helping them get to the so called safe zone. But 10 bucks says it's a trap and people are gonna die I haven't finished the book I left half way through. But it was a amazing book nonetheless! And the one I'm reading now isn't that bad either so if this means something to anyone look at the book Divergent by Veronica Roth. Now to the next thing I sorta had a great connection to how brenda and thomas were having a relationship but that's pretty much it so NEXT. This book is that type of series were there test subjects they escape and than turn against the people than the bad guys lose after well all the books the book also has some romance and funny moments but the romance is diluted because they live in a apocalyptic world. And you don't know who to trust or well you could be alive today then next morning something is eating your best friend. I loved this book because it had scary moments that made me actually want to come back and read the book and it had a way I guess that made it so fun to read no clue why but it did.

I give it 5 stars because I only read half of it and I loved it so much so much adventure so much thrill lots of moments that if I was watching the movie Id jump in my chair and be like ow my god this is amazing. I won't force you to read the book but you should. I know you might be like wow why should I read this book if you gave up halfway through well i'm going to be watching the movie Divergent with a special person and I want to read the book and find the differences between the movie and the book because movie and book are very different. And that's really why if anyone else said something Id be like ow well I like this book more and pretty much push away Divergent. But back to making you want to read this book. I won't lie when I was reading Scorch Trials I never wanted it to end it was so fun when I got to half of the book I got really angry that it was ending. So unless someone important to you says read a different book you should just stick with the book.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer
5/5 stars
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer is an amazing story about love. This book is the third book in the series, but my personal favorite so far. This book’s setting is in Forks, Washington, and is based on two extraordinary boys falling in love with one ordinary girl. Extraordinary boys, meaning, one’s a vampire, and one’s a werewolf. Bella (the ordinary girl) is already in love with Edward (the vampire), but loves Jacob (the werewolf) too. She cares about them both deeply and would hate to see them hurt. But, being involved in the supernatural world is very dangerous for Bella, and could get her hurt. She has made a few foes along her journey. In this book, one of her AND Edward’s foe, creates an army of vampires to kill Bella, and hopefully some of the Cullen vampire Clan.

I really enjoyed this book. For one reason, it’s very different and out of place from other romance/mystery novels out there. Meyer also gives you every minuscule detail that helps you overall with the big picture by rephrasing sentences to get the most detail into them. For example, she turned “It was a sunny day in a gloomy town” into “The sun was shining down, in a place of utmost darkness.” This gives more detail and really paints a picture of what she’s trying to say. Another reason I like this book is because it’s very easy to follow, which makes the books a shorter read. Meyer makes sure it’s hard to get lost, by recapping mostly everything, but not in an annoying way, in a way that makes it seem like I’m recalling memories. It’s really cool that she does this, because for me, she always knew where I got lost. If I was confused, Meyer would explain the situation better in the next paragraph, and sometimes in the next sentence. That made me set on on any thoughts I had, knowing the facts. All of those factors are why I give The Twilight Saga: Eclipse a 5 out of 5.

The Hate You Give by Angle Thomas

5/5

I read The Hate You Give by Angle Thomas. This book is about a girl who best friend was killed by a cop while coming from a party. The cop claims that he saw her best friend pulling out a gun when in actuality he wasn't in the cop shot and killed him for nothing. Now the police officer who killed her best friend is going around saying that he tried to pull a gun on him so he fired. Which has people saying that her best friend was a thug and he deserved what he got. So, now she is trying to get the truth out about what actually happened that night while leading two lives. She went to a private school with few minorities. So when she went she would put up a shield so she wouldn’t be considered the “angry black girl.” But at home she would act how she wanted to act and do whatever she wanted to do with now questions asked because she was around people who wouldn’t judge her. Her home was her safe place.

I’d give this book a 5/5 because I like that it is realistic. And The Hate You Give really tied in to what I was looking for. The hate you give is a Young Adult Fiction. This book really made me feel like I was involved in the story. And like I was really in the story. Like when Star witnessed the cop shot Khalil and the dept that the author put in the surrounding details really made me I was witnessing him get shot. Reading The Hate You Give really gave me chills. Like today when I scanned over it, It really made me want to cry because it’s so detailed and real. I would very likely recommended this book if you like thing that could happen in real life.

Projekt 1065 by Alan Gratz
4.63/5 Stars
It is about Michael the son of an Irish Ambassador in Nazi Germany during WWII and his initiation into the Hitler’s Youth and his role in a “science project”. The book goes into the school system during WWII and how being in the Hitler’s Youth is a big deal. During the course of the book it gets to a point where it throws out twist upon twist. It has an act for deceiving what was originally thought and turning the idea on its head. It is a must read if you enjoy reading about WWII or if you enjoy spy books it has that aspect as well.

The author has a very keen eye for detail while writing and will give you twists that you would have never seen coming if you haven't paid attention to the details given to you throughout. Michael also has a very unique skill when it comes to detail which will come in handy since his parents are actually spies. He perfects this skill with a downed British pilot his family is harboring. Michael befriends a kid and you can learn a lot about his personality through the details Gratz leaves you with. The book will leave you with many questions as to this mysterious “science project” that all the boys in Michaels division of the Hitler’s Youth want in on but it will all come together when you read the book. The book made me realize that paying attention to details matter and it had useful information on children during WWII.

Mistborn
Brandon Sanderson
Rating 4.5/5
Mistborn is the kind of book that steals you from reality in the first chapter. It is a kind of mixed breed of heist novel and fantasy. The basic plot is that a ancient immortal dictator has oppressed one class of people for 1,000 years. A group of thieves plan to kill what many see as their god and crack open his treasury. Sanderson’s characters can steal you away individually. But the dynamics of them thinking and working together is what makes it good.

As Brandon Sanderson is the authority on hard magic systems, this book is no different from previous. It features a system that is easy to understand and can get characters out of tough situations and still feel satisfying. He uses this as a tool for characters instead of the bog standard “a wizard did it”. He also builds the world as the book progresses and paints a picture of a depressing ash covered landscape dominated by a crowded capitol. I would suggest this book to anyone that like some degree of difficulty in their books. People that don’t like fantasy might not enjoy this. If you like it this is the first in a trilogy of books. The sequels progress in scope and build seamlessly on the previous entries. I would give Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson a 4.5 out of 5.

Legend by Marie Lu
5/5 stars
I read the book Legend by Marie Lu. The genre would be fictitious action. This book is about a girl and a boy in America post WW3 who come from totally different parts of society. They both lose someone they love and it changes their perspectives on life. Throughout the story they’re battling with loss, danger, and fear of losing each other. The girl June switches sides when she realizes the truth about the government and help Day, the other main character work the system from the inside. They start a war between the people and the government and become the country's most wanted fugitives.

Legend is a mix of The Neptune Project by Polly Holyoke and The Hunger Games Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins because they’re all about going against the government in a dystopian kind of era. This book is very well written and unique in the perspectives. Marie Lu chose to write the book from two peoples perspectives but she pulled it off by changing the color of text to tell whos perspective it is. This really adds to the depth of the story because it shows more than one opinion on something. The storyline is very easy to follow even though it’s complex and the characters are so well built I felt like I knew them personally. I was surprised by how attached I became with the two main characters so early on in the story. I rate this book a 5/5 stars. There are no boring parts but it’s also not chaotic. It’s one of my new favorite books and I can’t wait to read it again.

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

4.5/5 stars

Graceling by Kristin Cashore was one of the best fictional books I have read, even though it is very similar to most if not all young adult sci-fi novels. Graceling is based in a world of seven kingdoms where some children can be born with a special power or skill, called a “Grace”. The book follows a girl Katsa who was graced with fighting and combat, and what she goes through after making an enemy of her uncle who is one of the seven kings. It also shows her journey, the new people she meets, and what happens when she learns one of the kings deadly secrets.

I really liked this book for many reasons. I liked it because it was very suspenseful and exciting. Most fictional books are suspenseful so that is something you would expect everyone to say but mine was suspenseful and different. It was different because I found myself asking many questions which always kept me immersed in the book because I wanted to find the answers. Cashore really does a good job of explaining everything with detail, but she also is able to write while adding a sense of question or confusion in the reader's mind.

Overall I would give this book four and a half stars because it was a fun read and I don’t remember a time while reading that I didn’t like it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action, adventure, or sci-fi books because Graceling is all three. I would also recommend this to anyone who enjoys being somewhat confused but not to the point where you will never understand or find the answers.

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
5/5 stars
This is the best book in its series so far. This book is the definition of a fantasy story. There are witches, fairies, and lots of magic throughout the whole book. Empire of Storms follows a long-lost princess named Aelin, who is attempting to reclaim her rightful throne. However, this task is not very simple. Aelin is always faced with problems like demons from other kingdoms, or evil people who are trying to stop her from taking her throne. The book is very lengthy but it has constant action. Also, the characters are all so unique and special in their own ways, it really makes the book more enjoyable.

Because this book is the best in the series, I give it a 5/5 stars. I greatly enjoyed this book while reading it. Everything about this book was phenomenal. From the characters to the storyline, there were barely ever any dull moments in the book. The author does an amazing job at bringing all the characters together and intertwining their backgrounds. For example, the author brought back a character from one of the first books, and made certain characters more important. Aelin has been my favorite character in almost all of the books. This is because Aelin is a fighter. Every time she is put down or has a problem, she goes through it with ease. I just really enjoy Aelin’s character for how inspiring she is. It was great reading the book and just learning all this new information about the main characters. The author did such a great job at this too. The storyline is very easy to follow, even though this book has the most perspectives in one book, than I have ever read. I just want to say, this book is so unique from all other fairytale stories. It crosses lines that other fairytale stories won’t cross. There is violence then romance and action then mourning. Overall, this is probably the best book I have ever read, and the author did an amazing job at bringing the main characters together and just writing a fantastic story.

This book in particular was a real page turner. In the book Colleen Houck focused in on and tackled some dark issues by bringing the said issues into light, instead of keeping them in the dark like so many have. The author took a different route in this book compared to the others in the series. She focuses on characters that were not never in the spotlight . This novel was written in a way that would make you sit and think about the plot for hours. This book had a overall message and what I think that message is: Try,try again. It doesn't matter how many times you are thrown off the symbolic horse. You should always keep trying because that is the most important part. To never give up and to not lose hope even when things are bleak. There is always light in the darkness. There is always hope.

Fahrenheit 451
By: Ray Bradbury
Rating: 5/5
Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury is one of the most unique utopian & dystopian political thriller I’ve ever read; a genre that seemed to be mostly forgotten as of recent. The world of 451; a seemingly influential character on its own merit is a fifties depiction of what the our 21st century society could’ve become in the future if we were to simply forget the importance of the small things in life. This is where our main protagonist Guy Montag comes into play. Montag in the world has the role of a fireman, but he’s not putting out the fires — he’s starting them. In this dystopian future books are altogether illegal, and it’s the firemen’s duty to burn any evidence of a book’s existence away. But soon enough, Montag will experience a feeling or rebellion for the system he spent so much time obeying.

This is something that 451 perfectly excels at; character. It captures the dystopian future while maintaining a hold on the characters that live within it seamlessly. I also found the way the book captures the implications that come with a dystopian future through the many set pieces and the characters that interact with Montag to be fascinating; though it also lets the characters who support the system seen in the book express why they think it works. One last thing I found Ray Bradbury did was the fact that Montag is not a perfect-character, he has flaws that’ll maybe the reader disagree with his decisions, especially during the climax when Montag commits an action that seems completely out of left field that readers will agree to be unnecessary.

It’s been said before that Ray Bradbury with 451 wanted readers to understand the importance of reading, which is a point he tries to hammer home in the story. This leads into another topic; 451 is a very heavy dialogue story, it's a slow book most definitely. This never really hindered my experience with the story, but I do realize that might be a turn off to some. It’s a book that takes its time, and that's not a necessarily a bad thing. It reminds me other fiction books that have dealt with this idea of a “perfect” utopia such as The Giver, and 1984. So would I recommend 451? Yeah, It’s part of a genre I do feel like is unappreciated at best as of recent, and it’s quite a shame. 451 is great example of a story predicting what might become of us, and addressing the problems that come, or may come with a society where we surrender our freedom. Yeah If u scfi and politics good 4 u.

This is the 7th book in the Alex Rider series and they’re all great. It’s about a 14 year old boy (Alex Rider) who works for MI6 as a spy. In this book he is on a mission were he has to stop a bomb from detonating and killing tens of thousands of people. His jorney to get there is amazing and his thought proses in the book is astonashing.

Overall this book is great, and so is the series. The author includes a lot of detail, suspence, and techniques into the book. He’s is especially good with creating suspense. Almost every page is filled with it, he packs it all in. Another thing I like, is that these books aren,t all about alex being a spy, but about his life aswell. I do have one problem with it though, its repetitive. That’s why i gave it a 4 / 5, every book, in this series, is based around the same concept and they are all the same book with different words explaining some sort of mission.

Harrison has had a very rough childhood because he hasn't gotten the best foster families, but that changed when he got taken in by a football coach and his wife. Harrison had watched football on TV but never thought he would get to play. At first Harrison wasn’t making it out so good with fitting into a new school, but when he got on the field he showed that he had a lot of potential. But something happened to Harrison that would change his football dreams forever. Unstoppable is similar to most of the Tim Green books I’ve read because it is about football but this is a story that could happen to a lot people and there are events in this book that happen to people in the real world.

I give Unstoppable by Tim Green a 5 out of 5 star rating. It gets a 5 because I really liked this book. One thing that made me like this novel is I liked Harrison’s story in the way that he didn’t get everything handed to him and he came up from the ground hit some rocks along the way but he got past them and got to achieve his dream even if it wasn't the way he planned. Something that I learned from this book is that there are setbacks in life some are big and some are small but if you stick to your original goal you can make it.

Revival By Stephen King
4.7/5 stars
So I read Revival by Stephen King the King of horror, I was bracing myself for a scary book, but while you may think of Mr. King as a writer of horror, this book wasn’t really horror, it was more of a thriller. This book follows a man from when he was four until his death. And how his life gets tangled up with other people's lives, and then how he finds someone he knew from when he was a kid, his reverend who is performing “magic” on random people who come to his “performance”. This type of magic he does is electrotherapy, so say you’re addicted to cigarettes or are paralyzed, he can heal you with these golden rings. It worked too! But his work took a turn for the worst when some of his “patients” began to do crazy things, like pouring salt in their eyes, or even super gluing their mouth and nose shut. Then the man is forced into helping his old Reverend. I can sort of relate this to the TV show Life On Mars because you never know what's going to happen in the next episode, will he find out how to go home or will he not.

It’s all around suspenseful (now I’m talking about the book) if I were to rate the book it would be a 4.7 out of 5 stars, the only reason it’s missing .3 stars is because at a couple of spots it dragged on and remember only a couple of spots. I really loved this book though because of the way everything intertwines within the book. At one point the Reverend leaves and you think he will never ever come back, but when the main character was addicted to drugs, then boom the Reverend was back to “heal” him. All in all this was very intricate way to write a book and I thought the King of horror did a very good job with it. I loved this book even though it had its slow spots and it made me think sometimes someone can seem a certain way all nice and giddy while really on the inside they are rotten and crazy. Not everything always seems the way it’s supposed to. I recommend this book one hundred percent. It will keep you guessing the entire time.

However, Bruno slowly starts to realizes that he the other side of the fence isn’t what he thinks it is.

I personally really enjoyed reading this book because I was kept on the edge of my seat knowing something bad would happen throughout the whole book. Seeing World War ll through the eyes of Bruno brought a more personal and realistic side to the story of World War ll. Doing this the author also built suspense and an ongoing fear that something bad was going to happen to Bruno and his friend. The author really built up the relationships in the book well so that the ending was more impactful. However due to the fact that the author didn’t build up Bruno and Shmuel’s relationship until later on in the book the beginning portion of the book was quite slow moving and boring. After I got past the boring bits of the book however Bruno’s character was really built and you end up growing to love Bruno’s innocence and humor.

We Were Liars
By E. Lockhart
5/5
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is definitely the best book I have read this school year. This book is about a group of 4 cousins/ best friends that go to their grandparents island every summer since they were really young. Their all Sinclairs which means they are all “perfect” or at least until Cadence has her accident which causes a lot of disruption in her family. Also the family members of the Sinclair family were all being selfish and were not thinking about the children or their futures, they were just thinking about themselves, which was another reason for the accident accouring. Cadence finds her love but the loses him after the accident. This book has a ton of mysteries that makes the reader really think.

We Were Liars would receive a 5/5 for me because this book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this because it always had suspense and the book was never boring. It had me on the edge of my seat because there was always action or drama and that made the book way more interesting. Like when the author was describing the accident in the book as a reader that was stressful and made me really wonder if everything was going to be alright. But in the beginning it was kind of slow in the beginning it picked up slowly. I would definitely recommend this book to people who don’t like really long books because the book only has 227 pages which is an easy read. I also recommend this book to someone who kind if likes drama and romance because this book has a lot of drama between the family members. It also has some romance throughout the book with Cadence and her “boyfriend”. This book was very good and it taught an easy lesson that you should never take anything for granted because Cadence thought that this would never happen and it did.

The Name of the Wind
Patrick Rothfuss
4.5/5
Patrick Rothfuss’s The Name of the Wind is an action packed, epic fantasy similar to The Lord of the Rings. The book follows Kvothe, a young boy around the age 15, on his search to find his parents’ killers. Kvothe starts his journey with nothing but his wits after his parents and trope of stage actors are murdered by a mysterious cult, the Chandrain. He must learn how to survive in the harsh, winter streets without money and enemies around every corner. The constant struggle to stay alive and have enough money to learn anything about his parent’s killers, keeps the reader intrigued.

The main reason I think The Name of the Wind is so great is there is always something interesting happening. Weather it’s conflict or a slow conversation that would is otherwise be boring, Rothfuss always found a way to build suspense and keep me on the edge of my seat. This makes the book really hard to put down once you’ve started. It annoys me that less people have read this book, let alone heard of it, because it’s really good. But I can understand why. It is a thick book. In summary I gave The Name of the Wind a 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you are a fan of the Harry Potter or Throne of Glass series I strongly recommend you give this book a try. It’s a must read if you like magic, action or adventure.

In the Heart of the Sea
By Nathaniel Philbrick
I give the book In the Heart of the Sea by Nathaniel Philbrick a 4 out of 5 stars. This book is about the tragedy of the Whaleship Essex from Nantucket. This book is from many of the crews perspectives so you can see everything that happened. This makes the story better because it shows what the sailors think. From the perspective of the captain he shows shame and sadness when the first ship he was captain of sank. The crew of Essex must find a way to survive with horrible odds following the sinking of their ship while at sea. The crew must resort to doing horrifying things to survive. The book Moby Dick was based on the tragedy. This is a well written historical nonfiction book.

The reason I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars is because In the Heart of the Sea is a well written book but can be slow at times. The book goes from very thrilling and exciting to very dull in a few pages a few times throughout the book. The book can be in the action of chasing a whale a and then take a side story that is very boring to explain something. These side stories help explain what i going on better but can sometimes be very boring. This book explains everything you need to know to understand this book like who lives where on Nantucket. I suggest this book to anyone who is looking for a historical book about survival.

Maze Runner
James Dashner
4/5
The book I'm talking about is Maze Runner by James Dashner. So the main plot of the book is that this boy named Thomas wakes up in a strange place called the Glade. He is greeted by a bunch of other boys about the same age group as Thomas. Then Thomas and his new friends try to get out of the maze and back to civilization. But some of the other boys dont like Thomas and even try to kill him multiple times. So you go through this story with Thomas and you see all of the physical challenges mental challenges and social challenges.

The genres that Maze Runner is a part of is science fiction, young adult fiction and post apocalyptic fiction. My opinion of this book is that it's pretty good and I'd recommend it. The book is suspenseful but still sometimes it’s slow but not a lot so it's mostly not boring. Something you can learn from a character is that you should trust new people instead of jumping to conclusions and accusations before you know the full story . Also you really do grow to like the characters in the book. but yeah the reason you grow on the characters is that since you have been through stuff with them you start to learn how they think and with that you start to really like the characters personality.I personally rate Maze Runner a ⅘ the reason i give it a ⅘ is because sometimes the story can be boring and feel lengthy when it shouldn't be.

Eleanor & Park
By Rainbow Rowell
5/5
I read Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. It’s 1986, and 16-year-old Eleanor is finally allowed to go back to live with her mother, two younger brothers and sister, after a year of being kicked out by her pure evil, step-dad. It’s never easy to fit in at a new school, but Eleanor’s weight, curly red hair, and lack of money makes her a target for humiliation. Park, a 16-year-old, half Korean boy has a normal life. His days include listening to music on his Walkman, sitting on the bus, alone, and going through the motions of high school with his friend, Cal.

This novel reminded me of some of John Green’s books, like Paper Towns, and Looking For Alaska. Both John Green and Rainbow Rowell have similar writing styles, and their books are also the same genre, YA fiction. Both authors write similarly to how teenagers and young adults talk today. I think this is one reason why their novels are so popular, they relate to the audience that Rowell and Green are trying to appeal to.

I very much enjoyed this novel, and definitely recommend it to others! On a scale of 1-5, where 1 is horrible, and 5 is magical, I would give Eleanor & Park a 5/5. It was interesting for me to read a book that takes place during the 80s, I’ve never really read a book like this, it showed me what life was like being in high school during the 80s. I also loved Rowell’s writing style, I think she did an excellent job with expressing the thoughts and emotions of countless teenagers, no matter what year it is. The storyline was also very unique. Eleanor & Park might sound like a basic, pointless love story, but Rowell incorporated multiple themes, and conflicts into her novel, spicing up the novel.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
4.5 out of 5
I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling. This book is a action book but could be counted as a mystery and a drama .In this book Harry is in his fifth year at Hogwarts and the new challenges he has to face like a new head of hogwarts a return of three enemies one of which is a new friend and a hole lot of mysteries this is the fifth book in the series but be warned every book doubles in size and this book has a total of 870 pages. I have to say all the other ones were really fast moving all the way through and this book along with all the others would not make any sense unless you read al the first 4 in order.

In the beginning of the book it was kind of boring it was like watching paint dry but near the middle of the book it started to get fast moving like the movie of this book. While reading this book I found a couple of lessons like sometimes secrets should not be kept and that in dark situations there can still be hope. In my opinion I wish the beginning was more exciting but once you get to the exciting part you realize that the author might have done that on purpose and then all the events fall into place. In the end I really liked this book and I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and I would totally suggest this book to anyone but you do have to be able to wait a little bit.

The Girl I used to be
By: April henry
4/5
I read The Girl I Used to Be by April Henry, this book was really good. It was realistic fiction so this book is not based off a true story. The author made it seem it was this book the girl I used to be was about a little girl whose mother was murdered and the killer brought the little girl (Olivia) to Walmart. The killer drove off the Walmart was about 3 hours away from the murder and it was so someone would find the little girl because the killer wanted her alive for something…. 14 years later cops come knocking on the door the father didn’t run, the killer wasn’t the father. like everyone expected he was. He's been dead too so there was a suspicion about him killing the mother than himself but they didn’t find all the remains and a part of the body was a mile away. But now Olivia is 17 years old and now getting flashbacks to the murder of were it was, Who it was. and now she is looking to find out who it really was because that means the killer still is out there. Looking for her possibly and all these flashbacks she's seeing in her nightmares etc. might lead up to the truth for her to find out.

I would give this book a ⅘ stars because out of all the mystery etc. It was really good book but at some parts it got boring and it made me lose interest in the book and want to stop reading. Because it was just a few pages of them doing the same thing like for instance they would just have conversation for a few pages and talk about what's going on and never actually do anything. But than the sudden change in the book happens creating more suspense etc. and if you’re a person that likes that. It's a very good pace too not to fast or slow but overall it's a good book and I do recommend.

Scowler by Daniel Kraus
2.5/5

The book Scowler by Daniel Kraus is a syfy book, but it is also one of the most confusing books I have ever read. It is about a family with an abusive father named Marvin, who gets put into prison for beating his wife and kids. But there is a huge problem… Most of the inmates escaped, and Marvin is one of them. He sneaks over to his house, and he is on a mission to kill his family for not taking care of the property while he was gone. But the son has a small collection of stuffed animals that come to life, and they help him and his family fight back their evil and crazy father.

Throughout the book I was left very confused, and I would often have to stop and take time to figure out what was going on. I had a hard time figuring out many things, and I am even still unsure about many things. There were lot’s of flashbacks, and it was very difficult to figure out if it was a flashback, or something that was actually happening. But, there were some good messages that I found out, like when you love someone, you should put them over yourself, and that you always have to be optimistic no matter what situation you’re in. I also found myself relating to the younger sister, because we had lots of things in common, like our sense of humor, and our love for family. I feel like the story line was interesting, and there was good details, but since I never knew what was going on, I would have to give this book a 2.5/5 stars. I would recommend this book to people who like fast moving, syfy books.

The boys have to figure out how to survive and what to do with no adults around. The boys try to govern themselves by making one leader but they split after conflict occurs between who the actual leader is.

I liked this book but it moves slowly. There is not action in every chapter but you do get to see what the main character is thinking about which adds an opinion to what is happening. I liked how most of the action happens mentally but it doesn’t say what it is exactly until the end leaving the reader to figure it out on their own.I would recommend this book to a person who has the focus to keep reading through the boring parts but still understand what is happening. There are symbols used throughout the book that you have to think about to understand what they are representing. I think this book is kind of like The Hunger Games by having a group of kids and teenagers surviving alone and Chaos Walking by knowing all the main character’s thoughts and feelings. The genre of this book is fiction. I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars because I was a little bored at some parts.

This is a book about a boy named Joshua Bell and his struggles of being a 15 year old teen with a dying father and a family issues and his road to the hall of fame,of becoming one of the most famous basketball players ever like his dad .(this is a fiction book).

I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5 because this book was a true attention grabber in the way the author formatted it to be like a giant poem. I mean this because the author uses this image of a struggling teen with family problems, many of the people he meet he can read them like a book and this is why he has problems at school because he is so brutally anost the nobody really likes him until a new girl comes to his school and really understands him and from that point on she changed his life at home and at school and gave him a new sense of hope. This book is a pretty easy read for people that like and don't like poetry this book at some points can be very touching and very exiting.

Mortal Engines
Philip Reeve
Rating:5/5
Mortal Engines is a Steampunk themed book. In the book, the Earth is a barren landscape controlled by the monstrous traction cities. These once famous cities sprouted tracks and now wander the remnants of the world, it’s a city eat city world, as the only way to survive is to destroy your competition. The two main characters are Tom, who lives on the traction city of London, and Hester, a troubled girl being hunted by a mechanical beast. Tom’s life seemed to be normal for him, but once he meets Hester, he may change his mind about how he thinks of his famed role model.

I would give this book five stars. I thought that this was a great read since Reeve included lots of detail, which made you feel like you were standing right there on the deck of London, with the rumbling tracks underfoot. I liked that Reeve didn’t explain everything to you right off the bat, like backstories or what happened, it created a sense of mystery in the book. I also like the new idea of having cities moving around on the earth, it made me imagine that, who knows, maybe we will do that too in the future. Reeve did an excellent job developing your feelings for the different characters in the book, he was always toying with your emotions from page to page. I think that maybe this book was written so that we can be shown what the possible end result of us polluting our planet’s air and destroying its forests. The barren landscape of the desolate world that the book is placed in.

Every wednesday Holling has to stay at the school alone with Mrs. Baker while all the Catholic and Jewish students go away for religious classes, but the problem is that Mrs. Baker's family is the owner of a sport emporium that is being built by his father, so Holling has to be extra careful so he doesn’t endangers his father’s work.

I give this book a total of 5 out of 5 stars because of the lovable Characters and the humor and how Holling always gets in trouble and has to get himself out of it. I also like how it is staged during the Vietnam War so I can relate to the book. What I took away from this book is that if you persevere and stride toward your goals good things will happen. I suggest this book for anybody who doesn’t like fantasy or sci-fi. I also suggest reading the sequel, Okay for Now.

Looking for Alaska by John Green
4.5/5 stars
Looking for Alaska is a realistic fiction novel and romance about a boy who moves to a boarding school and falls into a group of outcasts, and in love with a unique girl named Alaska. Within his new group of friends, Miles finds himself doing things he never imagined himself doing, such as pulling off elaborate pranks. Following, some pretty unexpected events occur, but I won’t spoil anything. I know it sounds boring, and like any other teen romance novel, but trust me, it’s much more.

This book reminded me a lot of Paper Towns, also by John Green. They have a very similar plot, but the styles are pretty different. If you like John Green’s books, I'm sure you’ll enjoy this one. One thing I really liked was how the characters in this book are unique in the way that they aren’t. They seem like people you’d know in real life, and I thought that made the story so much better. The author does a really great job describing the feelings of the main character, Pudge. It leaves the reader with one hundred percent certainty about what’s going on and makes you feel much closer to him. The only reason I didn’t give Looking for Alaska five stars is because up until the “incident” the book moved a little slow. But I guess in a way, that also builds a lot of suspense. There was also some pretty explicit language and imagery. This book will leave you pondering the true meaning of life, but also give you a new appreciation of it.

Wake Up Missing
By Kate Messner
Rating: 5/5 stars

Wake Up Missing by Kate Messner is the best book I have read in a long time. This mystery is about a girl that goes to a mental health camp in the middle of nowhere and the counselors are working on a suspicious project to take the DNA out of her and her friends and use DNA from scientists to make them smarter. They find out about the project and have to find a way to escape from the deep dark swamp and get home without being killed.

I would give this book 5/5 stars because it keeps you interested throughout the whole book but it is also disturbing at the same time, that they are going to use their patients to make them rich, which is what kept me reading until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery’s.

Nowhere Near You
By Leah Thomas
1/5 stars
Nowhere Near You by Leah Thomas is about two people- a boy, named Ollie who is allergic to electricity, and another boy, Moritz, who is blind and has a pacemaker. Ollie is stepping out of the forest after his mother dies and is set on exploring the world for the first time. His goal is to find Moritz, who is across the world from him in Germany. While the two are traveling, they discover that there are others like them who are disabled or have very rare conditions often thought of as impossible, like having bones as brittle as chalk or having two heads. Ollie and Moritz write letters to each other about their day-to-day lives as their experiences get more hectic, often making the two want to stray off of their paths to one another.

Nowhere Near You written by Leah Thomas is a book that was not very good in my opinion and I would rate it a 1 out of 5 stars. This is a slow paced and a very hard to understand novel. Nowhere Near You is a young adult fiction with hints of sci-fi in its characters. In this novel, I had surprisingly noticed a few cheesy aspects of romance here and there, for example the infamous phrase, “I love you.” This clearly was not in my expectations and I was disappointed, being that I was just looking for a fiction and a science fiction novel. The reason that I had also described this book as hard to understand was because the author had written the perspectives of the characters through letters, so it was hard to relate to and made me feel like I was not truly “in" the story. Sometimes the two main characters, Ollie and Moritz, would choose to forgo important details in their lives so as to lead the other on, but through this I was also led into the dark. Leah Thomas might have also done this with her complicated words and lengthy sentences which did not seem like what you would find on a letter. I felt like the author had kept on repeating and adding in unnecessary details into the characters’ lives, which is why I had thought that the story was slow. While I was reading the novel, I had found that I did not like most of the characters. Ollie and Moritz had often put on a happy “mask” in order to hide their feelings from the other person and I had thought that these were bad choices. Nowhere Near You had showed me that even though you may be different from everybody else, you can still be happy. Overall, I did not enjoy Nowhere Near You and would not recommend it to my fellow peers.

  The Archived
3/5
The Archived by V.E Schwab is a fiction book that I read about a girl whose grandfather passed on a secret job to. The job is to be a keeper, wich makes sure histories don’t get out into the outer, a history is kinda like a ghost I guess, but is more like a file on someone after they die. They are kept in an archive (hence the name). The place were the histories go when they escape is suddenly becoming more and more filled since she moved into her new apartment because of her brothers death, and shows her family trying to move on.

I enjoyed this book because it had a different look on what happens after you die and was creative, I also enjoyed the fact that it has the main character guessing what she believed in was wrong or not, although cliche, it’s that way for a reason. I suppose this book can also be classified as a mystery, so if you like those this is also a good book. Some things I did not like about the book was that it did build up some things and was anticlimactic/ slow going sometimes. Some could argue that I only read it because it was on my bookshelf, but I would still recommend it with 3 out of 5 stars.

Social Suicide
Gemma Halliday
Five stars

I have recently just read the book Social Suicide by Gemma Halliday. This book is fiction and is a very quick read. I’m not a very big reader unless I find a very good book which is sometimes hard. This book only took me a few days to finish though. This book was stupendous! I just couldn’t put it down. At the end of every chapter it was a cliffhanger, which just kept me wanting to know more. This book is about is your casual somewhat outcast girl, Hartley who’s part of newspaper trying to get all the stories with all the details so she had something to put in each weeks school paper. Then you have the popular stuck up girls, little did they know painting test answers on their nails is not the best way to cheat on a test. Days after Sydney and Quinn suspension from cheating Sydney is found face down in her pool…

Read this book to find out who killed Sydney, why she was killed, and how Hartley plans to investigate this story for the paper. I would give this look 5/5 stars. The suspense is what kept me drawn in, just not knowing who did what and trying to piece all the evidence together on my own, it was fun and kinda frustrating. Anyone looking for a good quick read would enjoy this book, you definitely don’t have to worry about being bored because this book will keep you on your toes.

The Darkest Minds
By: Alexandra Bracken
Rating: 5/5
Out of all of the books I’ve read this year, The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken was by far one of the best. Set in a not so distant future, America has been plagued with an unknown disease that kills 98% of all children. The book follows Ruby, a girl who is in the 2% that survive. At the young age of 11, Ruby is sent off by her parents to a government controlled “rehabilitation” camp. What the public doesn’t know, however, is that the camps are in fact made to cage and stop the children from taking over, because the ones that survive aren’t normal. The kids that survive the plague sweeping the nation, deemed Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration or IAAN, have developed mutations in their brain and can begin to do things they can't explain. The government has classified the children in the following colours to determine their threat: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue. Ruby is an Orange, one of the most dangerous next to red, and has been hiding out in one of the government's largest camps as a Green. The book follows Ruby’s journey to try and escape the camp and make her way back home.

This book is sort of like Divergent or The Hunger Games, with a strong female protagonist overcoming adversity and defying the governments wishes to subdue them. However, I liked this book much more than the previously mentioned novels. This one may seem exactly like the others, but to me, this book is better. Ruby is a compelling character struggling to find, hide and control herself in the dire circumstances she is placed in time and time again. Although there is a bit of romance, there wasn’t enough to distract me from the storyline or make me want to put the book down, even though I don’t like romance novels. This book is mostly a futuristic-dystopian coming of age story, with Ruby learning more about herself and having a dangerous adventure to escape the life she wants to leave behind. Along the way, she learns the value of friendship and family, and how important it is to cherish the people around you for as long as you can. This book was definitely one of my new all-time favourites and will go back to read time and time again. I would give this book 5/5 stars, from the moment I opened it I was immediately hooked and couldn’t put it down and would recommend this to anyone.

One of Us is Lying
Karen McManus
Rate: 4/5

The best book I read this year was One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus. This book is about 5 students that get detention, Addy, Simon, Cooper, Nate, and Bronwyn. But, when Simon suddenly starts to have an allergic reaction and dies, the 4 students are left, getting blamed for his murder.

One of Us is Lying is in the genre mystery/fiction. I really enjoyed reading this book because of its suspenseful ending that kept leaving me wanting to find out more and more about what truly happened to Simon. Also, some characters were really easy to get attached to, and it made me want to see if they would finally get justice, or if they were the killer. It was extremely easy to get attached to the characters because of their stories and back stories. For Nate, it made me sad for him because everyone thought that he was a complete rundown of a person. The overall theme of this book is to not judge a book by its cover. In my opinion this book is 4 out of 5 stars. I give it this rating because it was also kind of slow to get into action in the middle of the book and I wished it went a little faster. This book is good for you if you like dramatic endings that will leave you shook.

I would highly recommend this book to most people. This book is about a young boy named Billy, back in the day who lives up in the country away from most people. He craves the feeling of having TWO specific hounds to help him adventure the woods while hunting for coons. He will do anything to get these dogs. It takes a couple of years but after selling wild berries and other important goods, he finally gets the money and now is living the dream of being a proud dog owner.

I really like this book, I would rate this 5 out of 5 stars. Billy is a really easy character to relate to. Like most kids, as he grew up he really wanted dogs. I always really dreamed of having a dog as I became the age to understand how to take care of one. Billy is very determined. Before you were to get an animal you would do anything to be able to have one. Even though his parents were in a tough bump in the road he managed to do whatever was possible to get the money to buy his two dogs. He always took care of his dogs the best he could and would never let them down. As this book gets further in you really learn to understand Billy as a person.

I have to admit the Brotherband series is one of my favorite series of all time. There is one book in that series that tops them all and that’s The Ghostfaces by John Flanagan. The book The Ghostfaces is about a crew that trained in their childhood to work as a team no matter what. After delivering important documents to another country the shipmates get lost in the Endless Ocean. After days of thirst and being soaked by the sea they get washed up on an unknown island. They have to find out how to survive and how to survive attacks from both animals and natives.

I would give this book a 5/5 stars because there was always one conflict after another which made the book different from other books. It made it different because most books have only one main conflict but this book had multiple. Those multiple conflicts made the book unpredictable which is so fun to be able to read. I also loved it because this series (if you read it all) gives you a connection with each character which makes you feel like you are actually in the story and part of the crew. This really helps this story because there is so much nervousness, excitement, and sorrow between each person so you can feel what is going on with real emotions. I really love the genre of this book too, fantasy and adventure, which is a good mix because fantasy heightens the adventure part by using it in creative ways. I also love how this entire series is in the same time period as the Ranger’s Apprentice series. That really helps this story because it helps give a really good picture of what this world looks like. This book is good for anyone to read and it will show you that you should never give up and always know that your friends are there for you. It will pull you in and leave you hanging, but you might want to read the other books in the series before this one.

The Missing: Book 1 : found
by:Margatret haddix
rating:3.5/5
The Missing: Book 1: Found, by: Margaret Peterson Haddix is a sci-fi/ mystery about children stolen from time. The book focuses around Jonah and Chip, who are both 13 year olds stolen from time, and Jonah’s sassy little sister Katherine and the adventures they go on, in the first book it's more just them figuring out what time travelling is and the different components to it but in the others its their journey through time.

I can’t give this book 4 or 5 stars because it moves quite slowly and I feel like the first and second books in the series could’ve been shortened into 1 book. However I really like the story line and think its a very clever idea. I’ve read the second and third books in the series as well and I think that the second one is the best by far, it’s also nice that you don't have to read the first book to understand the other ones, though it helps the understanding a little the author does a pretty good job of explaining things from the other books, but that does contribute to the books being slow moving. With this book it's really hard as a reader to trust any new characters as the main characters were backstabbed and deceived so many times. There's also a slight hint of romance as Chip and Katherine start to fall for eachother. I wouldn’t say it’s a must read but it’s still an enjoyable book.

The Sacrifice
Charlie Higson
Rating: 5/5
The book “The Sacrifice” by Charlie Higson is an intense and suspenseful book. The author’s style of writing and what he made the book about is very unique and interesting. This book is about two different groups (which switch between chapters) who fight against blood-thirsty diseased humans and try not to get killed at the same time. I liked how the author switched between two different groups every other chapter because it lets you remember what you read about. I really enjoyed this genre of book and would highly recommend it to someone who likes suspense and constant action.

I rate this book a 5/5.
