Buddhism was founded by Prince Siddhartha in the sixth century B.C. Prince Siddhartha having achieved enlightenment, he became known as Shakyamuni and preached a path of salvation to his followers.

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pali Canon Scriptures: It was first at the Fourth council in Sri Lanka, Written in 3 sections Vinaya Pitaka, Sutta Pitaka and Abhidhamma Pitaka and have following at the council called the Tipitaka (3 Baskets).It is made of 227 rules of conduct and discipline applicable to the monastic life of the monks and nuns. 3 types of teaching long teachings (Digha Nikaya), medium length teachings (Majjhima Nikaya), groups of shorter teachings according to common topics (Samyutta Nikaya).They used to write on dried palm leaves cut into rectangles and etched with a metal stylus and rubbed over with carbon ink. People still do this today known as meritorious activity. Lastly this scripture is translated into English for people to study.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<h1>Text: Mahayana Text </h1><div>2. In the growth of the Mahayana culture sutras were written with the teaching of the Sanskrit Canon, the new Sutras were based on existing text and new text to cope with Mahayana ideas. Ex:<strong> </strong>Sutras, Saddharma Pundarika Sutra, Vimalakirti Nirdesa Sutra, Sukhavati Sutra </div><div>B. Practices: They have a variety of rituals and practices that are intended to aid the journey to enlightenment and bring blessings to oneself and others. </div><h1>1.  Meditation is the central focus of Zen Buddhism and the only way to liberation in Theravada Buddhism.</h1><h1>2.  Mahayana Schools developed a variety of other rituals and devotional practices, Which were inspired by cultures like India, China, Japan, South Asia, and Tibet</h1><div>3. Ordination to the monastic life and funeral rites, life cycle events were regarded as secular affairs for most of Buddhism's history. </div><div>4. There is thus no official religious ceremony for milestones like birth, coming of age or marriage as there are in most other world religions.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
