         <description><![CDATA[<div><em>The Serranía de los Yariguies National Natural Park is the mountainous system that presents the highest altitude in the western foothills of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia. In addition, due to the particularities of its isolation and the main wind regime that governs it, it has become an orographic speciation area (Donegan and Huertas, 2005; Díaz et al., 2008).<br></em><br></div><div><em> <br></em><br></div><div><em>It corresponds to the forest remnant more conserved and of greater proportion in the Department of Santander (Agreement CAS 007 of 2005, Agreement CAS 096 of 2008), in which converge part of the river basins of the Suarez rivers (14,634 Has), Sogamoso (10,972 Has) and Opón (33,398 Has), which regulate the water supply of the surrounding municipalities. Additionally, the first two basins will contribute to the effective flow of the Sogamoso Hydroelectric Project and the last two are vital for the maintenance of the Magdalena Medio wetlands (Agreement CAS 007 of 2005, Agreement CAS 058 of 2006, ISAGEN SA, 2008, Quintero -León, 2008).<br></em><br></div>]]></description>
