# Egeus

1. Role: Nobleman of Athens, father of Hermia

2. Personality: Egeus is a strict, traditional, and authoritarian figure. He is adamant that his daughter, Hermia, should marry Demetrius, the man he has chosen for her, and is unwilling to consider her own desires or feelings.

3. Goals: Egeus's primary goal is to ensure that Hermia marries Demetrius, as he believes this is the best match for her. He is determined to enforce his will on his daughter, even if it means going against her own wishes.

4. Conflict: Egeus's opposition to Hermia's love for Lysander creates conflict between them. He is also at odds with the law, as he invokes the ancient Athenian law that allows him to sentence his daughter to death or a life of chastity if she refuses to marry the man he has chosen for her.

5. Relationships: Egeus's relationship with his daughter, Hermia, is strained and authoritarian. He is dismissive of her feelings and desires, and is willing to use coercion and manipulation to get her to do what he wants. He is also opposed to Lysander, whom he sees as a rival suitor for his daughter's hand.
