Jacob Portman, the main character, has heard many stories about peculiar children from from his Uncle Abe Portman who got moved from Poland to Wales during world war 2 to live all on his own. Abe was soon taken in by Miss Peregrine and lived with the peculiar children until he went off to fight in the war. Abe left and never returned the island off the coast of wales. Once Jacob was born, Abe told him many stories of the island and the peculiar children. The stories stuck with Jacob until one day a time school other kids made fun of his “fairytales”. Jacob told his Uncle to never tell him another “fairytale” again. Then, one afternoon Abe died in a mysterious attack. Jacob was never the same after losing his favorite uncle. Abe left a box and some letter for Jacob. The box was filled with pictures and letters from the peculiar children. Jacob through the help of a doctor went to the island off the coast of wales. Jacob meets the Pecular children and Miss Peregrine. The setting takes place is a small town off the coast of wales. The island is a fishing community and uses generators for power. My first impression of the book is wow this book is weird.
Mrs. H says: This is a good summary; is it his uncle or grandfather?

“I wanted to tell him. I wanted to explain everything, and for him to tell me he understood and offer some tidbit of parental advice” (Riggs 268).
The speaker is Jacob Portman who just found out he is a pecular child and that he could be killed by a wright (monster) at anytime outside of the time loop. Jacob wants to explain to his father what is going on in his life and he wants his father to give him advice on whether he should stay in the time loop or live a life of looking behind he back. This means that Jacob has to make an important decision just like his grandpa did. Jacob wants his father to understand why he is making this decision. Jacob has to choose between leaving everything he knows behind or living in fear. The author is showing that he wants people to understand and feel sympathy for people. This quote matters because it shows how family should not act and how friendships can be formed in the worst of situations. The author wants families to care for eachother no matter the decisions each family member makes. The theme of this quote is that family is I,octant and everyone should have a family.

If your family moved to the place where the book is set, would you be happy about it? Why or why not?

I would not be happy about moving to the island because there is no technology that could be used on the island. The island is very obsolete and cut off from the world. I like to know what is happening in the world and I like the thought of having electricity all the time. The island has a small amount of running water so I would not be able to shower everyday like I do now. I would not be happy if my family moved to the island.
