The park is known for the astounding Bungle Bungle range, which was only "discovered" by a film team in 1983.

Purnululu National Park was established in 1987 and skyrocketed to world fame in no time at all. And deservedly so...
The park is fauna and flora and several walks lead out of the baking sun into cool, shady palm-fringed gorges. Facilities in the park are refreshingly and visitors must be totally self-sufficient. Sunsets here are sublime. Temperatures can be extreme. Rangers are in attendance during the high season when the small visitor centre opens. There are two large, basic bush camping grounds at either end of the park

The striking Bungle Bungle Range in World Heritage-listed was a secret from the outside world until 1983. Today this maze of orange and black striped sandstone domes, often likened to giant beehives, is one of the best loved attractions in Western Australia's region. It's a spectacular landscape of sculptured rocks rising 250 metres above the surrounding semi-arid savanna grasslands
