These students will learn how to manage their bodies and feelings. This group is homogeneous and the members all have similar needs. The group will consist of 6-8 kindergarteners. 

Stage 1:
The counselor will focus on paying attention to building relationships by being kind and allowing the students to trust each other by playing games that will allow the members to get to know each other. They will be able to build trust with the members and a bond that will allow them to feel comfortable, welcome, and special. The counselor will provide activities that will help the students be able to form relationships. The counselor will make sure to always remind students about the importance of keeping things private and not sharing what others say in the group outside of the group. 
Stage 2:
The counselor will provide engaging activities to promote members working together enhance student learning from the small group topic. Seeing the members of the group engage and interact will allow the counselor to gauge progress throughout the group to determine what needs to be included in the group sessions. 
Stage 3:
The counselor will plan to celebrate the group members' accomplishments and how far they have come with a certificate and a group share with members discussing everything they have learned. The counselor will also make sure to do check-ins with the students periodically to check on progress. This leadership style would benefit students in kindergarten who need clear expectations and guidelines. They need to see what it looks like and how things should be done. Imitative behavior may be one that kindergartners would show. As time progresses and students understand self-control other members of the group may take on the manner of group members who function more adequately (Yalom, 1995). They will model the positive behavior shown by the other group members. 
Development of socializing techniques would also be another one used with kindergarten students. Students at this age are learning how to effectively communicate as well as regulate their emotions. Providing small groups, school counselors are able to support the academic, social, personal, and career development of students. School counselors also engage learning by implementing small group counseling.
