In order for feedback to be useful, I will need a little bit more insight into what this statement is exactly tied to. Let me know your thoughts!***

Potholes are probably the biggest problem we have in Lincoln

***Trevor, this use of pathos is very close to being effective. I would use strategy #2 in this sentence. For example, what words can we change in this sentence to make it more emotional and powerful? Consider changing "probably", "biggest", and "problem". Let me know your thoughts if you need assistance with this and other examples of pathos!***

“a wide range of economic, social, and political causes. For many, it is a chance to improve their livelihood in a country where opportunities for work are more plentiful. Others may be escaping persecution or conflict, such as refugees from

”The issue becomes even more complicated when illegal immigrants have children in America, making the children American citizens. Deporting the parents might permanently break up the family, something many Americans oppose.

***Mustafa, these sets of pathos are very close to being effective! There are definitely emotions tied to these statements. Is there a particular emotion you are trying to evoke from your audience? Your word choice is precise, descriptive, and eloquent. The only piece that is missing is a bit more personality and original. For examples, what are some changes we can make to "might permanently break up the family" and "escaping persecution or conflict". These statements can be overused, leading to no emotion to attached. How can we keep the same idea but switch the wording so it is authentic and full of emotion? Let me know your thoughts if you need more assistance!***

Though much progress has been made to increase traffic safety and reduce accidents, family members, friends, and loved ones are still being killed or seriously injured due to the incident of accidents that’s occurring.
***Lah, this sentence definitely has emotion attached in the message! What kind of emotion was your intention? You have a great start; however, I am wondering if we can make this a little bit more original and unique. For example, instead of saying "are still being killed or seriously injured due to...", is there an alternative way? I think the word "killed" has become overused and normalized in conversation. Let me know your thoughts or if you need more assistance with this process!***

Nutrition is critical for a child's brain, especially for their cognitive development, and for concentration and learning at school. There are plenty researches that show children who are famished are not able to focus, leading them to have a low attention span in school; on the other hand, children who are well-fed make a difference in their academic performance in school.

***Uyen, this sentence is a great start for your use of pathos! Your word choice is accurate and original. The only item I would consider changing is "make a difference in their academic performance in school". This statement can feel a little bland at times, especially with the use of the word "'difference". What does making a difference truly look like/feel like? Take this statement a bit further by having intense imagery to show us what the difference may be. Let me know your thoughts if you need assistance!***

I would suggest starting with strategy #1. What is the emotion you wish to evoke from your audience? Once you have figured out what that emotion is, the next step is to craft each sentence with that idea in mind. The next step is to use word choice to up your ability to evoke that emotion. These sentences seem professional; however, focus on making your sentences sound more personable and emotional. Let me know if you need assistance with this, Shaimaa!***
