Why do some Heroic figures turn out controversial? In some ways a hero And a vilain are really close A hero can quickly turn out to be a Bad person and A vilain As surprising as it may seem can be if you look closely a real kindhearted hero!To illustrate this idea why can take Christopher Columbus : The man who discovered America, The man who is being remembered every 12th October on the so called “Columbus day”, the adventurous hero who is today being remembered as a “hero” can also be seen as one of the bade guys!He was an Italian an Italian explorer and sailed in 1492 across the Atlantic for the Spanish crown. He landed on San Salvador’s island and that’s when he discovered America . Actually he didn’t really discover America on purpose it was a only an accident : what he was indeed trying to do was to look for a sea route to Asia for Spain to develop its economy ( to get silk opiate and spices ). Anyway , Columbus thought he could find a faster and safer route to Asia and some mistakes later found himself near the American coasts .But nowadays many question the legitimity of this “hero” because the truth is that he didn’t really discover America . He did but not as the first one ! And so many find it not right to call him a “hero”. The second reason why it is controversial is that his discovery led to many many years of murder , genocide , rape to sum up many years of suffering for the Indians who already leaved there historian now have facts to prove that columbus and his ship crew committed unforgivable crimes to this community ! So can we really celebrate as a federal holiday the man which led to the complete and extremely painful and disgusting extermination of an entire population ? Well not really ! But we still do it anyway ! How frightening is that?
