Die vorherrschende Vegetation ist die Trockensavanne mit trockenem Grasland und einigen Trockenwäldern. Die Bäume in der Savanne werfen teilweise ihr Laub in der Trockenzeit ab und ergrünen im Laufe der Regenzeit. Typische Bäume der Trockensavanne sind Schirmakazien und Affenbrotbäume.

Die mosambikanische Küche hat ostafrikanische, portugiesische und indische Einflüsse. Traditionelle Gerichte wie Matapa (ein Eintopf aus Maniokblättern, Kokosnuss und -milch und gestoßenen Erdnüssen mit Meeresfrüchten), werden häufig mit Xima (einem Maisbrei), Maniok oder Reis serviert.

Auch Krankheiten werden hier schnell übertragen. Da meistens nicht genug Geld für eine Behandlung vorhanden ist sterben auch viele kleine Kinder.
