The different layers, from the calm lake, the farm hand tending to his animals, and a castle in the distance, engage us with the many separate layers that make you look gradually at one at a time.  The storm clouds forming in the distance give us note of a storm coming, that may perhaps disrupt the peace of that day. letting us know that peace may be disrupted by storms every once in a while.

The intensity of these people is great enough that it is as if we are in the room with them. It is the darkness and the curiosity we get from trying to decipher what is being said that keep our attention drawn to the piece.
