Early life

Sara Fortis was born in 1927 in Chalkis, Greece. Sara Fortis was 100% Greek, but her family celebrated Jewish traditions. Sara’s father passed away when she was only 2 months old. Sara was forced to leave her mom in a small village called Kuturla and after this she knew she wanted to be a resistance fighter.

Sara as a Resistance fighter

Sara decided that she would become an andarte, which is a resistance fighter. On her first mission she was ordered to throw Molotov cocktails to distract the enemy and allow partisans to attack. The Male partisans were so impressed with the all-female group to join them in their missions. Together they burned down houses, executed Nazi collaborators, and aided the men in a way no other group of females had before. She also taught teenage girls to become women by teaching them how to handle dangerous situations. No one knows the exact dates of all the missions that Sara went on but they know what she did

Nobody knows when or how Sara died. It is most likely that she died doing something during the war because she was a resister. As a resister she is supposed to put herself before the others Jews that she was smuggling out of the ghetto's.

Sara had become such a wanted women by the Nazi's because of all her amazing work. Instead of arresting Sara the Nazi's arrested her cousin. Sara never saw her cousin again because she was murdered on sight.

When Sara was just 2 months old her father died which was not a great start to her life. The war then began and Sara and her mother had to get on the move. In a small village named Kuturla her mother told her to sneak out. Sara was left lonely so she decided to become an andarte.

Resistance after the war

After the war the resistance fell apart due to the new Greek government. Sara was then arrested but let out shortly after for her great reputation. To settle down she moved to Israel with her husband.

For her first mission Sara was recruited to distract the Nazi enemies. She along with other women were gave the job to throw Molotov cocktails in the building with the Nazi's in it. This allowed the Partisans to attack. The male partisans recognized the women's actions and asked them to join in many of their missions.
