Classical Conditioning is a form of learning in which a new involuntary response is acquired as a result of the two stimulus being presented at the same time. For example: Everytime your read a book (NS) your brother (US) makes a load noise that may disturb/ scare (UR) you. One day you sit down to read a book (which has now become (CS)) but your brother does not do anything, however, you still feel anixious (CR) when you read a book.

Operate Conditioning occur when a voluntary behavior is followed by a consequence that increases or decreases the likelihood of the behavior occurring again. For example: You study for a big test and get an A so you continue to do that before every test to continue making A's.

Punishment LESSENS the likelihood of a behavior repeating. Reinforcement INCREASES the likelihood of a behavior repeating.
Some examples include:
Positive Reinforcement: A woman buys a dress and wears it to work. She receives compliments throughout the day. She buys more dresses to wear to work.
Negative Reinforcement: A person wants to save gas. They stop taking the long way home and saves gas. They continue to take that route home.
Positive Punishment: A teacher gives a student more homework when he misses class. The student stops missing class.
Negative Punishment: A person turns off his cable so he will watch less TV.
