The Berlin Airlift was an airlift operation that supplied food and fuel to West Berlin from 1948 to 1949. The airlift was a response to the Soviet blockade of land access to West Berlin. The blockade was part of an attempt by the Soviet Union to force the Western Allies to relinquish their control of West Berlin.
