Carla used movement to keep the student engaged. The use of statements that invited students to stand up if... followed by a discussion of why students were either standing or sitting. It was a great way to keep the class flowing and incorporate movement into their day.

Carla’s peer pressure group activity was very inspiring and gave me ideas for incorporating something similar into my curriculum. In groups of five, students roll-played different situations where one student would request the other members of the group to participate in an activity that had, shall we say, the potential for adverse consequences. The other students in the group were tasked with caving in to the peer pressure and helping to get others on board, or resisting the peer pressure to various degrees.

I was inspired by the way in which the students would switch rolls in an attempt to understand the perspective of each of the group’s different positions. Though I have not worked out the details as to how, I plan to incorporate this technique into my class for the Sprint term.

Andrea met individually with each student to check on their final project, making sure they understood the requirements and it was tailored to their strengths. Also, prayer was a meditation that was inclusive to all faiths and recognized student stress levels at the end of the term. She also offered students an opportunity for a practice presentation to a peer for feedback and a chance to revise.

Erick taught a media design course that I observed in March. He created a lesson plan that included a variety of teaching methods and student participation. The lesson was about mixing color and creating a palette and spectrum of various colors to use in their project. Students experimented with whipped cream and food colors to create subtle to brilliant to deep shades. The students enjoyed themselves while learning, and, later sampling their colorful creams on a cookie! The atmosphere in his class was warm, welcoming, and inviting for students to learn, experiment and even make color "mistakes". Erick circulated among the student pairs/teams to further teach and offer suggestions. A great and yummy experience for all!
