I believe that animals are intelligent, Patent states on page 105 lines 6-9, " Villa a year-old Newfoundland dog belonging to Andrea's neighbors, heard her cries. Villa had always been content in staying inside her dog run, but now she leapt over the five-foot fence and rushed to Andrea's side." I believe this makes the dog intelligent because it could have been taught that kind of rescue. It was said to have been content in staying inside the fence so it was taught that not to rescue a person while jumping over it. That cannot be taught.

I believe animals are trainable but just not brain smart. Dorothy Hinshaw Patent says on lines 40-42: ¨It is easy to confuse trainability with thinking. But just because an animal can learn to perform a trick, does not mean that it knows what it is doing.¨Animals might be intelligent in other ways but according to most tests or experiments, animals most likely are not brain smart. They either do a certain act because of training or on instinct.

As the storm raged around them, Villa led the way back to Andrea’s home." This is explaining that Villa is thinking of what she can do to help than acting she was doing the think before you act trick then leading Andrea back to her home.

I believe that animal are intelligent and trainable because Patent said on line 66" Wolff's statement was inspired by Clever Hans, a horse that appeared to show remarkable intelligence . A retired schoolteacher trained Hans as if he was a child, with blackboards, flash cards, number boards and letter cards. After four years of training, Hans was ready to perform in public. When asked a numerical question, Hans would paw the answer with his hoof. He shook his head "yes" and "no", moved it "up" and "down", and moved it "left" and "right". Hans would show his "knowledge" of colors by picking up the appropriate color with his teeth." and to show intellegance Patent said on line 140 " The concept of intellegance was thought up by humans, and our thinking about it is tied up with our human system and values. The things that are important to animals can be different from those that matter to humans. When studing animals, we must test them in situations that have meaning to there lives, not ours, and not just to see how much they resemble us." Witch says how what we think as intellegance is not what they think is intellegance there is no real definition or test that applies to all speices. We are technically animals to. So animals have intellegance in their own way and are trainable.

I believe animals are intelligent because Patent says on line 13, "The dog waited until Andrea grabbed her, then strained forward, pulling the girl from the drift." Some people might say the owners could've trained her to help people, but to actually do it and help save her is very intelligent because the dog could've chose not to do it.
Another reason I believe animals are intelligent is because Patent says on line 74, "Hans would show his "Knowledge" of colors by picking up a rag of the appropriate shade with his teeth." I own horses and I know most horses actions are unpredictable. We have a 25 year old gelding named Blueyes who is full of intelligence, we put a man with Cerebral Palsy on him and he did perfect. Of course we never trained him to do that and that shows how much intelligence he has. We also had a horse named Troubles, hence his name, we trained him so much a then he kicked my dad in the head. Once again we did not train this horse to do that but he did anyway. Animals have intelligence it just depends on if they want to show it.
