Energy and water supply system. Extreme climate events adaptation and mitigation measures.

1.        Generalizing and promoting green energies (solar, wind, kinetic, geothermal energies) and green storage.

2.        Inviting students to implement eco-behaviours regarding water and electricity supply by completing surveys. For example, a chart could be signed with eco-gestures/behaviours (Policies signed by students and professors).

3.        Adopting international certifications to cope with water and energy consumption reduction. Complying with ISO certification: ISO 50001 for energy management system, and ISO 14001 for environmental management system.

4.        Transforming building architecture to adapt to extreme events, reduce electricity consumption and the use of air conditioner in the future & winter air supply. It includes covering car parks, using higher albedo, improving isolation or adopting green walls.

5.        Incorporating AI to find new solutions. For example, monitoring pollution, movement detection and building sustainable engineering in order to avoid energy waste.

6.        Collecting rainwater at the scale of campus. This includes the adaptation of roofs and the use of cisterns in order to reduce the consumption of tap water.

7.        Implementing systems to reuse water. For example, implementing water treatment plants according to the goal number 6 of millennials SDG (sustainable development goals).

8.        Implementing policies to fight against heat islands.

9.        Choosing green energy operators for supplying the energy.

10.   Preventing universities from financing fossil fuels.

ACTIONS:

We COMMIT, THEREFORE, to consider:

1. Implementing Environmental Awareness Campaigns:

   - Conduct annual campaigns focused on various topics such as health, hygiene, transportation, food, and resource conservation. These will include posters, seminars, radio podcasts and integration into the academic curriculum to foster personal and collective environmental awareness.

2. Promoting Sustainable Cleaning Practices:

   - Use eco-friendly cleaning products for campus and personal hygiene. Although these products may be more expensive economically, they are environmentally cheaper. To reduce costs, seek partnerships with local producers, avoiding reliance on large multinational corporations.

3. Encouraging Student Participation:

   - Host competitions among students to promote sustainability initiatives and innovative solutions for environmental challenges, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.

   - Organize exchange fairs where students, professors, and staff can trade goods and services, creating a real marketplace that supports reuse and reduces waste.

5. Providing Renewable Energy Information:

   - Display information about renewable energy (solar panels) solutions prominently around the campus, such as in parking lots and communal areas, encourage the adoption of these practices at home.

6. Enhancing Health and Nutrition:

   - Prioritize freshly prepared, locally sourced food in our cafeterias (e.g. artificial colorant free products). Minimize pre-cooked products in favor of healthier, such as locally-inspired dishes. Increase the availability of plant-based food options in our cafeterias to reduce the environmental impact of meat consumption.

7. Establishing vegetable productive patches:

  - Implement orchards on campus to supply fresh products to our restaurants, while also serving as pedagogical spaces to promote local and sustainable food sources.

8. Reducing Waste:

   - Install water fountains across the campus and encourage the use of refillable cups in our cafeterias. Provide discounts for students and staff who use reusable bottles. Implement a bottle deposit scheme.

10. Supporting Local Markets:

    - Include local producers in our supply chain and foster sustainable farmers' markets within our community, promoting consumption groups and local economic development.
