I chose this topic because race relations in our country are up for debate, and many critiques are saying that racism is still alive and well in the U.S.

I chose this photo because racism is a pressing issue that
some people turn a blind eye to. When an individual sticks his or her head in
the sand they are essentially avoiding to see what is in front of them because
they have blocked everything out. When people refuse to see what is in front of
them they begin to become woefully ignorant. Ignorance in which you want to
act as if you are not aware. I believe that when it comes to the issue of
racism many people stick their heads in the sand. Yes, sometimes people pull
the “race card”, and no, you cannot blame an entire race of people for all of
your problems. However, it is still an issue that we see even today with DOJ
investigations, police departments, and even the activity of some fraternities.

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in.”

- Isaac Asimov

This quote is perfect for this issue because the “dirty

windows” referenced in the quote represent people’s prejudices, and
stereotypes. These tendencies are direct causes of racism. When you only see
things one way you begin to categorize an entire group based on the little that
you see. However, when you realize that not everyone is the same and you are
able to see clearly you realize we are all just individuals, not “all black
people” or “all white people”. Without stereotyping there are no racist view
and beliefs.

I felt that the quote that you have chosen was absolutelt inspiration and deeply connects with rasism which is also a topic most people dont really like to mention. Some people assume that a person from a different race does a certain thing or acts a certain way just because they were probably toldn that or taught that which is not right. Great topic by the way.

I have experienced racial prejudice, I grew up going to a private school full of white kids and after the 3rd grade I was the only black guy in my grade. I was obviously best friends with the white kids and they would try their best to keep it in, but every now and then someone would make a racial remark towards a black person. Now it didn't bother me at all because I knew they weren't talking about me, but it amazed me at how many people would look to me after and wait for a reaction, but then someone would say "oh, he doesn't care he's cool." It just shows how some people will expect certain things from you just because of your skin color.
