The electrode array inserted into the cochlea is designed to bypass damaged hair cell functioning. The electrodes in the cochlea are arranged so that high frequency sounds that are coming in result in stimulation of the electrodes near the basal region of the cochlea and low frequency sounds stimulate the apical region of the cochlea.
