The Dot Exercise can be used in any classroom at the beginning of the school year or even the middle of the school year, to exercise limiting biased thinking in the classroom. This activity will work best with older students in middle or high school. The students need to be able to be confident in how they are supposed to group themselves, if not they will ask and it will diminish the results.

This animated short film Umbrella can be shown as an introduction or bridge to connect students from different backgrounds. This film shows how we cannot assume to understand the thoughts of others by stereotyping. This film would work for all ages but will be most effective for those in middle or high school due to the cognitive growth needed to fully connect with the theme of the film.
