CHAPTER 4: The focus of the book narrows to the littlins sibculture and three of the littlins interacting as they play with one of their sand castles. Rogers and Maurice come out from the jungle and deliberately destroy some of the sandcastles on their way to the beach. Jack and the hunters are about to tell the new hunting strategy, They wikll be using colored clay and charcoal to camoflauge their faces with their surroundings. Jack then orders all the hunters even samneric who was on guard of the fire signal to go and hunt with him. Raplh spots a ship in the distance and is confidant that the ships crew will spot out their smoke signals. Ralph didn’t realize that the fire had gone out. When simon points out that the fire went out and there is no smoke he and ralph and piggy hurry up the dorment fire site. The ship is gone. Jack and his hunters are triumphant in hunting today. They march back with their heads held high and a pig being dragged behind them. Jack and ralph face off about the desertion of the fire for the sake of the hunt. Jack apologizes but ralph remains angry. CHAPTER 5: Ralph calls the assembly and reminds everyone of their agreement to maintain fresh water and supplies, observer sanitation measures, build shelters, and keep the signal fire going. He also addressed the ground fear that he knows is the begging to overwhelm most of the boys from being on the island. Jack takes the conch to point out that is a beast were on the island he would have seen it durig his hunting trips. Piggy adds to the field of psychology can be used as a tool to explain the logically the experience of fear, therby invalidating it. Simon says that is was only he, goiug to his special place. Chapter 6: After the assembly the boys go to sleep above them is an aerial battle is taking palce. A casualty of the battle floats down to the island on his opened parachute. Samneric who is on fire duty sees the fallen man and hears the parachute and hurries off to tell ralph in fear. At dawn ralph calls another assembly to decide who gets to go investagate the only spot left unexplored, The castle-like rock formation at one end. With piggy and the littlins remainding behind on the beach ralphj and the others go to the castle. Ralph goes first by himself followed a few minutes later by jack. Once they discover that there is no beast that lives there the boys join them in the castle and ralph announces that they all need to go check on the fire bt he forces the issue and jack ends up leading the group to the fire.

Chapters 4,5,6.
The theme in this section is that evil is apart of human nature. In the beginning we don't see this. In chapter 4. Jack kills the pig and they sing and dance about it. That is the first act of evil.
Jack is a perfect example of the human nature theme. When he feels most vulnerable, Jack abuses a victim weaker than he to regain his authority. In these chapters we really see how jack changes. In chapter 1, the boys move a boulder in friendship. Now Jack is excited to use boulders to kill.

Simon is often thought as spirituality and religion. He is not afraid of walking into the forest alone at night. He doesn't get frightened like the other boys do because he knows there is nothing to fear.
Simon reveals the truth saying maybe the boys themselves are the beast. Piggy who is civilized cannot accept this. But simon sees things for how they really are.
Sources:
Golding, William. “Spirituality and Religion Theme in Lord of the Flies.” LitCharts, www.litcharts.com/lit/lord-of-the-flies/themes/spirituality-and-religion.

| Chapter 10 | Piggy refuses to accept any form of acceptance in Simon’s death. He refuses to believe he could of participated in any way. While ralph on the other hand is laughing hysterically and clearly having a nervous breakdown. Jack meanwhile is ruling with an iron violent fist at castle rock and using excuses to justify his violence. He starts a lie that the beast can assume any form that it wants and assumed Simon’s that night. Jack then plans to raid Ralphs camp. While piggy and ralph sleep the hunters attack the camp and steal piggys glasses after beating ralph to a pulp.
| Chapter 11 | The next day the boys in the civil tribe decide to try to make jack’s tribe see reason. Once they arrive at castle rock they are greeted by guards who tell them to go away instantly. Jack and a few hunters emerge from a bush with a pig at their side and immediately jack and ralph have an intense face off. Jack then starts a fight with ralph. While ralph is trying to make jack see reason jack orders the guards to imprison the last two friends ralph and piggy have. This immediately sets off ralph making him even more violent. Piggy is then killed by a rock thrown by a hunter from up above forcing ralph to run away from the army now threatening him alone.
| Chapter 12 | Ralph is running through the jungle realizing that any form of society there was is gone. His friends Simon and piggy have died and he is alone. He finds the “Lord of the flies” head which jack who stumbles upon him, uses as a weapon against him. Ralph gets away for the night when he sneaks into the Savage camp to try and rescue his two friends. Ralph gets food and then hides in a thicket. The thicket the next day protects him from many attacks from the savages trying to end his life. Jack then burns the forest causing ralph to run. He fights his way past the hunters and jack to run to the beach where he passes out. A naval officer stumbles upon the island after seeing the fire and comes to save the boys but is horrified after hearing what happened on the island. Finally happy that the boys will be saved they all weep and the book ends with the officer turning his back so the boys can regain their composure.

| DerSarkissian, C.

When the chapter begins it starts to tell a story about how the boys are breaking from their normal characters. Their mental abilities are starting to fall durasticlly as they begin to follow jack and turn into animals. The reason we know this is because they stab a friend thinking he is a a pig . Jack ends up killing a pig in his new found tribe and sticks the head on the end of a spear and sticks it into the dirt. Simon comes accros this pig head and is halucinating and hears it speaking the language of, "the lord of the flies." simon passes out in fear and that is where chapter 8 ends. Chapter 9 starts with simon waking up and as he wakes up he looks around and see the dead body of the parachuter. He goes and looks into this to find ou twhat it was. He soon finds out that this dead man is what they had been living in fear of for so long. he starts to head back to tell the rest of the boys that the beast is not real. Jack throws a party to celebrate the pig that he had killed that day. Everyone was invited uncluding ralph and piggy. All the boys begin to dance around the pig in the rain and begin to turn into wild animals. This happens right as simon gets back to the camp but no one is able to realize that it is simon all the boys jump onto simon and kill him with their bare hands and their teeth while he screams out in pain. Once they get out of the moment they realize what they just did and ran away in fear screaming

Chapter ten starts with the boys all together talking about what they had jsut done. Piggy does not belive that he could have any part in killing simon, while ralph is laughing scardly while he is clearly having a nervous breakdown. Jack is at the castle trying to use excuses to justify his violence towards simon, he starts to lie to himself saying that the beast can take on any appearance it wants and that night it was simon. In anger jack leads a raid onto ralphs camp to steal his supplies while piggy and ralph are sleeping. when the hunters jack is leading attack the camp the steal piggys glasses and beat ralph half to death. In chapter 11 the boys who stand with ralph try to make jacks tribe listen to some sort of reason. when they get to the canstle they are stopped by guards who they greet but get told to leave instantly. Jack and a few of his hunters emerge from a bush with todays hunt at their side. At first sight jack and ralph begin to have a moment between the two of them. Jack then goes on to start a fight with ralph while ralph is not fighting back trying to get jack to listen to reason. jack orders his guards to take the last two friends that ralph and piggy have. This is where ralph begins to get a little hot headed making him extremly violent. In the midst of all this fighting piggy is killed by a rock that was thrown onto his head by a hunter from above pushing ralph to retreat.
