This is one of my closest online friends, Finley from the UK and likes to make many "funny" jokes as he thinks they are. At this time my microphone was broken and I had to keep texting in chat to communicate with him. This led to many typos and he would often make fun of my spelling as seen in this clip. As 'revenge' I like to mess with him back by shooting him off platforms in game. This demonstrates how even with the distance, online platforms are capable of creating bonds similar to offline relationships, making fun of each other and laughing along with silly things as if we were in person.

This is a significant memory as after we watched the Wonka movie together, the songs 'Never Had Chocolate Like This' from the Wonka movie and '2 days into college' by Aimee Carty from Tiktok have been stuck in our heads for WEEKS. I have heard him sing these two songs 24/7, I eventually got sick of it but he would keep going and going and going. It was very fun though singing it with him. A memory that will stick with me forever. Finley has always made me laugh and a great distraction from reality and all the drama, he was a way of escapism and really helped with my mental health.

The day before this assignment was due I was having a mental breakdown, ranting to Ricci a lot about something and getting really distracted from my assignment. He has quite the aggressive side of things but is extremely caring at the same times. When I need someone to knock some sense into me I would go to him for advice. This is a good example of how even online friendships you've never met can boost and motivate you.

These are three significant songs that I specifically picked out for my archive. The first song, '2 days into college', my friends and I would have stuck in our heads on repeat and singing it every chance we get, creating fun memories. The second song 'Stick Season' represents how I felt along the way during the time I lost a best friend {Ricci} at the time, I felt partly to blame and overall it was a sad time. Another significance of this song is that it was the first song ever listening with Finley, it was actually suggested by him and now it is one of my favourite songs. The third song ' Friend's Couch' is like a personal reflection of my life through the escapism of reality and seeking support from online friends like the metaphor of 'friend's couch', having that support network.

Finley

Finley is a year and five months older than me from the UK. We met 2 years ago and our journey together has been the most significant as I spent most of my time with him. We would be on voice call everyday on Discord, playing multiple games and spending 10+ hours on some days. Our very first interaction with each was very significant and some would say ‘unique’. We met on Minecraft in a Hypixel housing and there was two guys doing a parkour, one of them being Finley. I went up to him without saying a word and he suddenly typed “oh, you again” as if we have met before. I was really shocked when he said that and so confused. I begun doing the parkour alone and he was watching me, making fun of me saying stuff like “L” “womp wimp” “haha”, because I was so bad at it. I made fun of him back, mocking everything he said to me before, every time he failed a jump. I guess we started talking from there, and eventually we started getting closer and closer. Finley is an extremely smart boy and extremely into space and the universe, he would often start talking and teaching me about the universe . He would often start talking and teaching me about the universe and just random facts in general. He is also tech smart too, so anytime I needed help with technology i would always go to him. Movie nights is also a common thing we do and he loved sci-fi movies especially Star Wars. He would make me sit there and watch all the Star Wars movies with him and get annoyed if I wasn’t paying attention because he knows I get distracted easily and go on my phone. This is when he starts testing me on the movie seeing if I was paying attention, secretly I do go on google and start searching it up{ don’t get me wrong, I love watching it with him, I just get distracted easily}. I would say he is a nerd but I do learn a lot from him. Star Wars has a lot of scientific factors and Finley is a logical thinker. He would pause the movie to teach me about the science behind space and analyse something to teach me {this goes for all movies} he is obsessed with graphics and gets excited every time the graphics looks cool, he really is like a little kid who just opened up a Christmas present when that happens. Finley loved trolling me in games, for example when we were playing GTA V and starting a heist he would tell me that I needed to follow the “road rules”, stoping at red lights and using the lanes or else we would fail the heist. A bit embarrassing that I fell for his tricks knowing GTA V is all about speeding and robbery. Till this day he would still make fun of me for falling for it. Unfortunately, life happens and people start having more responsiblities leaving others behind. My journey with Finley is the most memorable, he was always there for me when I needed help. Ever since I met him my days has been filled with excitement and fun, being able to talk to someone and feel cared for is amazing. Honestly without him, life would be so much harder, he was there for me at my lowest point life. I am grateful to have met him when I did, but sometimes in life those who helped you most can also hurt you the most.

Ricci

Ricci is two years older than me from Australia and my longest online friend of five years. He has been with me through thick and thin and I guess I could say we watched each other grow up in a sense. We met each other through a mutual friend of ours on Fortnite and begun playing and voice calling daily. Ricci has had an aggressive side of things all his life but was also extremely caring. He is the overprotective type even with his friends and would stand up for anyone who’s close to him no matter the situation. When anyone was mean to me he would invite them to our call and start yelling at them, eventually making them leave. Ricci was the type of person to give straight criticism and say whatever he wants even if it’s mean but was always honest. This is why I would often go to him for advice because sometimes I just need the straight up truth and honest opinions to knock some sense into me. I would say Finley and Ricci are very similar, Ricci is also extremely smart and tech smart, I have learnt a lot from Ricci, even teaching me all about the stock market and trading. We both enjoy singing songs together and at times he would randomly start singing out of nowhere. He has a very nice singing voice and it really suits those country songs. Over the past five years as all friendships do, arguments did arise and we ended up not talking to each other for a couple of months. Eventually we did resolve our disputes but during this time I realised life is too short and there is nothing worth losing a close friend over something that could be fixed in minutes. Ricci has taught me, when life doesn’t go your way, don’t give up because there it is a brighter future ahead. Sometimes if it was meant to be, people do come back.

Matteus

Mateus is a year younger than me from Norway. We also met on Minecraft Hypixel housings and I see he was always online and in the Discord server voice chat a lot. I decide to join him and he was extremely nice and very goofy. Matteus is really good at Minecraft PVP and would carry me in games, almost every single time. I would say Matteus and I help each other a lot, we talk to each other about our personal stuff and help out each other the best we could. Matteus would come to me and talk about his day and everything that’s bothering him as he has a lot of health issues and I am always there for him. Any time I want to rant about something stupid or just want someone there to listen Matteus is the one I go to. Although our time together hasn’t been as long as mu other friend’s, Matteus is the one I feel comfortable talking personal stuff to knowing he wouldn’t judge. Most of my experiences are ones that he has gone though himself so it was easier for him to help me out. Having friends around the world also means a free language teacher. Matteus would sometimes teach me Norwegian and half the time just be laughing about my pronunciation instead of teaching. I suppose people really do seek guidance from someone older online as I have been on both sides seeking and advising.
