A way to show mastery of a skill through choice of assessment. A student can choose how they are going to display their learning. The student can take a test if that is what they are most comfortable with or they can show mastery through other ways like a project or paper.

Standards based grading

Teachers base their grading off of the standards for their subject and content. Grading is more specific then and there is no grading done on effort and participation because grading is standards based so it is based off of the specific learning content.

Metacognition

Problem solving is done by not teaching the answer but teaching how to find the answer and get the solution to the problem. That is useful inside school and outside of school dealing with academics and other stuff like friends and family issues.

Differentiation

Students need to have the content fit their academic ability so students may need it more challenging and some may need it more simple, basic and to the point but in the end the same content is being taught.

Personalized learning and differentiation are very similar as you are making the learning specific to the students and how they learn best and will gain the content information and be successful. Personalized learning uses technology a lot because there are many resources and tools available there.

School is a safe space for students so teachers need to make their classroom feel safe and inviting which requires the feeling of inclusion. A few ways to help is promoting celebrations, modeling emotional regulation and focus on students strengths and interests.
