Natural Disaster (Q1)

Outside a Parkland home during hurricane Irma, Flat Lorax braces himself for the rising flood waters and tropical storm force winds during the September disaster . This relates to APES, because natural disasters, such as hurricane irma displace and destroy ecosystems. While the destruction of habitats is a negative aspect, natural disasters keep populations in check and aid in keeping a population below their carrying capacity. Flat Lorax worries that his photographer will, Genevieve, will drown in the water, but do not fret Flat, there is room for two on one door.

Standing in horror next to the remains of his dead friends, Flat Lorax ponders about the creature who ate so many of his diverse selection of friends. This unfortunate turn of events relates to APES because the bones uncovered from the owl pellet show the diversity of the ecosystem from where the owl lived. In this specific owl pellet, two rat skulls and one mouse skull were uncovered, illustrating the diversity of this particular owls diet. In order for this owl to have a diverse diet however, the ecosystem around it must have enough biodiveristy to support the owl's diet.

Overpopulation (Q2)

Standing on the second floor balcony at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Flat Lorax glares at the massive groups of teens during the 2017 spirit week. This relates to APES , because the hundreds of students gathered in the school courtyard illustrate the overpopulation of the world. MSD, one of millions of high schools across the United States, has a student count of over 3,500, which demonstrates how the population of humans is too large. With overpopulation comes the degradation of the natural capita of the area of the population and the Earth.

Nonrenewable resource (Q2)

Below a light at Genevieve Martin's home, Flat Lorax is blinded by the artifical light during the dark night. This relates to APES because electricity, which powers this light, is derived from a coal, gasoline, or oil, all of which are non-renewable resources. Non-renewable resources are resources of economic value that cannot be readily replaced by natural means on a level equal to its consumption.
