The Pentagon Papers was a name given to a top-secret Department of Defense study of U.S. political and military involvement in the Vietnam War. A man named Daniel Ellsberg, who was a military analyst in Washington D.C., came to think that the war was unwinnable and decided that America needed to know what was going on. So he took action by making photocopies of the documents and sending them to the New York Times which was published June 13, 1971.
