Many people describe success as achieving a dramatic goal in a very grand fashion, expecting a type of mental or spiritual fulfillment. For some that could be a career, a certain amount of income, marriage and children or maybe even travelling the world. The point is that many people look for success in the external things that the world offers. We rarely ever consider ourselves to be an equally valuable prize that has come into the world to fill a role in nature. We come into the world with nothing, and we leave the world the same way. Our “success” doesn’t follow us. So if success is temporary what’s the big catch. Always chasing but never arriving is many people’s conclusion when their time on earth is up. I’m not saying it’s bad, or unfulfilling to chase goals and dreams and aspirations those are indeed good. But if you can look around wherever you are in life, rich or poor, and be able to do the basic human societal things like share a meal with people you love. For me right now, success means getting my driver’s license and eventually getting my dream car. I’ve been trying to get my license for the past three years, but I kept delaying it and being lazy about it. Now I’m at a point where I realize that if I want my life to move forward, I have to stop postponing important goals and actually commit to them. For me, success is defined by the feeling of fulfillment. By making a change in my life which positively affects my outlook on myself AND the world. Without either, my feeling of success wouldn’t exist. For example, being successful in high school wasn’t just about the grade I got, but it was also about actually learning and being able to apply my knowledge to make a difference in my life. Why would I care about a high grade in Spanish if I still don’t feel comfortable speaking it? Why would I want to become a paramedic for the money? Success is the balance between finding fulfillment within myself, and seeing the reflection in other people; especially those closest to me.

For me, my goal is nursing, but I would also love to do martial arts, music, etc. Success is also the ability to restart as your goals shift. Someone that comes to my mind is "Rihanna". She built a very successful career in music as a singer, before she decided it wasn't what she was as passionate about. She then decided to build a multimillion dollar makeup company (fenty beauty) and become a mom.
