Summary of Function: Epic! is a very useful content resource that allows teachers to set up their classroom with a variety of books assigned by the teacher and has various tracking tools for the teacher also. This resource allows for students to read books that are assigned by the teacher and has assignments and quizzes based on the books. It's a great resource for the reading classroom but it can also help incorporate reading into other topics too. The teacher can assign books that involve math, science, music, etc. and can incorporate that into other subject lesson plans. The teacher can also track how long each student has read and how many books they have read. It also tracks how many times the student logs in to see if they are meeting the requirements provided by the teacher. The teacher can choose books based on the grade level but they can also assign books based on Lexile level to individual students.
Review: I would recommend this resource to every teacher. I have personally used this in the current classroom I am in. It is easy for the teacher to use and the students seem to really like it because there are a lot of fun books that they can read on there too. Epic! was really easy to set up and it gave a great intro to the website. Now for the exciting part....it is FREE! This is great for a lot of schools and teachers. One of the down sides about Epic! is that even though it has some readings based on subjects to help them learn, there are not that many. Most of the books help them read and get faster at reading but they are mostly fun books to get the students ready to read. That isn't a bad thing but my one concern is that they need more books that help them learn certain topics. Overall, this is a great resource but still has it's disadvantages.

Summary of Function : Raz-Kids is a very useful content resource. This is directed for K-5 grades. It has over 800 digital books in multiple different languages. Uses eBooks, audiobooks, comprehension quizzes, and worksheets. It provides teachers these to give their students. It also assigns individualized assignments and tracks the students progress. Uses a reading placement tool to place students at a good entry level so that they can grow as readers. The teachers can also change their reading level/Lexile level depending on what they see in the class. Like stated before you can create assignments for individual students but you can also assign things to the whole class. You can also track our students progress and see how long they are doing certain things and if they are doing it correctly.
Review: I am not sure if I would recommend this resource or not. On one hand, there are a lot of cool tools and resources that the teachers and the students can use. But there are a lot of better options for it. Epic! is a free option and can do just about the same thing. Raz-Kids is $125 for a one year subscription. Maybe some schools can pay for it but I would stick to a free version of something else. One thing I would love to see with this is utilizing the micro-phones on devices to record what the students is reading and give tips to the teachers on how to help each student. Maybe that is just me but I think that would be really cool.

BookCreator (Padlet Entry 3)

Summary of Function: Book Creator is a very useful content resource that allows for teacher to set up their classroom with a classroom code and invite students to the classroom. They can assign books to the class and monitor the reading. The main thing that Book Creator can do is give the students and the teachers a creative way to present their ideas/topics by letting them create a book. It uses a variety of pictures, words, videos, and other tools to help create a unique book. Another thing that Book Creator can do is to let the students listen to the books in different languages. This is cool because it can help a student who can't read or it can help a student learn a new language because they get to listen to the book in their native language. Book creator can be a free resource but it only has some capabilities. With the free version, you can store up to 40 books in the "library". If you pay for the "pro edition" you can store up to 1000 books! Another cool thing is that they have an option to get a quote for a school and you have unlimited amounts of books you can store. It works with schools to find the best plan of action for the school.
Review: I actually really like this resource. It is a fun way for students (and teachers) to be creative and have fun when learning. It also has a lot of different tools to help all learners. I love how there is a free version but I really wish that it was free all the time and you didn't have to upgrade. There isn't too many different things when it comes to upgrading and I think that is one of the downfalls of Book Creator. But other than that, I think it is a cool resource and I personally would love to use it in my classroom.

Edpuzzle (Padlet Entry 4)

Summary of Function: Edpuzzle is a content resource. It is used from K-12 grades. "Engagement you can see, results you can measure. Empower students to take an active role in their learning with interactive video lessons that spark creativity and curiosity (Edpuzzle)." In Edpuzzle, teachers can create a classroom. They get a class code that they can push out to students. Students then create an account and use the class code to login to the class. Within the "classroom", teachers can find videos/create them and assign them to students. When finding videos, these can be pulled from YouTube or other websites (just has to have a link). Teachers than create questions throughout the video for students to answer to learn their understanding of the video but it also allows for the teacher to monitor if they are watching the video too. Teachers can also view if the student watched the whole video, part of the video, or non if it at all. They can also see if the skipped around the video just to answer the questions. Another cool tool in it is that teachers can lock the video from being able to be skipped. With assigning videos, the teacher can also set due dates.
Review: I really like this website. I personally have used it before as a student and as a teacher so I have used and seen both perspectives. It is great from a students' perspective because it is a fun way to learn and it is something different. From a teachers' perspective, it is really cool to see how the student performed and all the other tools it gives you. The thing that I love the most about Edpuzzle is that it is FREE!!! That is just awesome because sometimes it is hard to find good resources that are free and this is one of the lucky websites that is good, user-friendly, and free.
