A favorite of Ms. Bry's... Thoreau embarked on a two-year experiment in 1845, when he moved to a small house in the woods, to see if he could discern what he really wanted and needed out of life. He wrote a lot of poetry and published the famous manuscript "Walden, or life in the woods" about his experience. He was known as a transcendentalist: a person who believes we all have knowledge about ourselves (which is beyond what our senses tell us) and that being in nature can help us connect to that inner knowing :)

Despite being so short, the poem is effective in achieving the humoristic standards of today, "Microwave", having no correlation the piece whatsoever, making it a surprise hence the haha factor

Messer is a book written by Till Lindemann that consists 54 poems inside. The book is originally in German but you can find the translated English version online.
I love this book because I am a fan of Till Lindemann - who is not only a poet but is also a singer-songwriter for one of my favorite band, Rammstein. In this book, the poems are so revealing in their honesty; there's no sugarcoating. Till's writing is very dark, he has a very dark sense of humor and to some, it may be disturbing. But I personally enjoy his work, for all the dark imagery he uses, and his phrasing is absolutely wonderful. Inside the book, there are also photos that seem to represent a feeling that you are trapped in a world of manakins, and that you are exploring life outside the norm for the first time.
One of my favorite poem from Messer is "Meine Mutter ist blind" which means "My Mother is blind", the poem goes:
Akne und Rosazea liefen Hand in Hand
über meine zarte Haut
über unberührtes Land
und haben es im Streich verbrannt

Mein Vater spricht zu mir
liebes Kid glaub jetzt und hier
die Frau die dich zum Manne nimmt
ist selber häßlich oder blind

In den Spiegel seh ich nicht
ich trag die Fackel im Gesicht
ich bin einsam doch nicht allein
Akne und Rosazea werden immer bei mir sein

If translated to English:
Acne and rosacea rush hand in hand
Over my tender skin
Over untouched country
And burns it as a childish prank

My father says to me
"Dear child, believe here and now:
The woman who takes you for a husband
Will, herself, be ugly or blind."

In the mirror I do not see;
I carry a torch upon my face
I am lonely, but not alone -
Acne and rosacea are always there for me.

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,Life is but an empty dream! For the soul is dead that slumbers,And things are not what they seem.Life is real! Life is earnest! And the grave is not its goal;Dust thou art, to dust returnest,Was not spoken of the soul. Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,Is our destined end or way;But to act, that each to-morrowFind us farther than to-day.Art is long, and Time is fleeting,And our hearts, though stout and brave,Still, like muffled drums, are beatingFuneral marches to the grave. In the world’s broad field of battle,In the bivouac of Life,Be not like dumb, driven cattle!Be a hero in the strife!Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!Let the dead Past bury its dead!Act,—act in the living Present!Heart within, and God o’erhead!Lives of great men all remind usWe can make our lives sublime,And, departing, leave behind usFootprints on the sands of time;Footprints, that perhaps another,Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,Seeing, shall take heart again.Let us, then, be up and doing,With a heart for any fate;Still achieving, still pursuing,Learn to labor and to wait
