Without progress and profit, providing for the people would be impossible. If you put people first, profit would disappear at a rate faster than it could appear. 
Progress enables new paths for the people. Without progress, advancements cannot be made, and people would be without much.
Profit goes into progress, and progress is for the people.
It is true that the minds of great people need to be nurtured, but those with bright minds would give to the cause of progress/profit and the scheme would most likely give back.
Without progress and profit, homeless shelters, laws, buildings and many other things wouldn't exist.

On the surface this looks bad but when we dig deeper, we often see that we have to sacrifice things for the greater good. Yes. Individualism is a positive. While it is important to act as a team (humans have evolved to be social creatures) you should stand by what you believe. Think about it- everyone should have the right to vote, and some people on the earth are pretty horrible. They are still entitled to the right to have opinions just because they are human. Sometimes you need to question people's beliefs otherwise you will never have a new perspective or make change. No matter what you think, you can't see inside people's heads and should trust yourself. That isn't saying people can't be incorrect- but if, after thinking hard about something, you decide that something is wrong, you shouldn't be afraid to stand up for that. As long as your actions do not harm others, it is important not to let others' opinions change what you believe.
