Point of View is an interactive workshop facilitated by two Orlando Shakespeare Theater Actor/Educators which leads students through an examination of bullying.

Using theater games, students explore how the use of gesture, posture, vocal inflection, and verbal content informs status in everyday interactions. The workshop helps students develop a vocabulary which encourages them to endow classmates with higher status. The workshop can be used as a companion to seeing "Twelfth Night" or as a complement to your own curriculum.


Text-Based Playwriting

Recommended: 6th - 12th Grade 
Fee: $155 per class 
Classes: (45 - 60 minutes per class) 

Text-Based Playwriting is a NEW workshop facilitated by two Orlando Shakespeare Theater Actor/Educators. The facilitators will perform two Shakespeare speeches that the students will analyze using text mapping techniques. The students will use that analysis and playwriting techniques to write a short scene. 

  "Orlando Shakes was founded in 1989, was started by a UCF teacher, who went around on a bus doing Shakespeare plays."

2. How prominent is Shakespeare in this theater and what other types of plays are typically performed in this venue? 

  "Orlando Shakes does more than just Shakespeare, we focus on classics, contemporary, and children's plays."

3. What kind of performances would you consider as the most popular by your regular audience?
  "I would say the most popular shows are usually musicals and sometimes our children shows, like Stuart Little. It mostly depends on the how popular the title is and when we do it."

4. What do you do in your position?

 "An education coordinator’s job is to help manage performances for educational facilities, like setting up workshops summer camps, and teaching other to do things like sign language. Also sets up live streams." Also stated that he is "Curious about what other theater are doing with live streaming."

5. If someone were interested in being a part of this theater (acting, ushering, etc.) how would they go about reaching out and getting involved?

  "Season auditions in springs, pick up auditions throughout year, email for volunteer."

6. Are there specific qualities that are preferred in an audition?
  "Looking for the best fit for the show, varies seasons to season."

7.  How do pick what theme to do for a season?
  "The Artistic Director comes up with something and then takes it to our co-worker, we also do surveys. Depends on how popular something is."

8. Does this theatre advocate for any specific cause? Such as, diversity?

"We tend to avoid the word advocate here. However, we do welcome diversity of all kinds  we even put a message on our door reflecting this."

9. Is this theater involved in some form of community service?
  "Outreach, funding, free tickets, grants, and workshop. Workshop is a setup of in school workshops, send actors to go to teach classes that are mainly     K-12."

10. What shows are currently playing?
 "Some of the shows currently playing Man of La Mancha, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Showtime with Shakespeare: A Magic Tree House Adventure."

12. What sparked your personal interest into the arts?

  "Been in arts since middle school, its in my blood. While they were remodeling my school, they added a performing arts section to the school where I took some classes."

  "The community, sense of family, regardless of position it creates a bond."

14. What characteristics do you personally believe sets Orlando Shakes apart from the rest of
the theaters within Florida?
  "The only full-equity theater in the Orlando area."

15. Funding?
  "We receive grants from numerous individuals and organizations. My understanding is that more than half of our operating costs is supported by grants."
