The Amendments help us provide and maintain freedom by making sure the original Constitution set by the founding fathers would be unchanged. Instead of changing the Constitution, these amendments were written to continue to ensure the rights of United States citizens. There are a total of 27 Amendments and the first 10 are called the "Bill of Rights." These guarantee civil rights and liberties to individuals.

The War of 1812 provided and maintained freedom because the British violated the U.S. maritime rights. There were several different battles between America and Britain. Eventually, America managed to overcome Britain's military which helped our country gain international respect. One of the most important outcomes of this war was much greater sense of American patriotism which then resulted in an expansion of our army and navy.

The branches of government help provide freedom for our country. The Executive branch carries out and enforces laws to make sure we are maintaining and providing freedom. The Legislative branch has 2 parts, the Senate and House of Representatives. Together they are called Congress. They draft proposed laws, confirm or reject heads of federal agencies, and have the authority to declare war. The final branch of government is the Judicial branch which includes the U.S. Supreme Court. This branch is in charge of deciding the meaning of laws and whether a law breaks the rules of the Constitution.

The United States Constitution helps maintain and provide freedom in our country. The Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. The Constitution's first three words, "We the people," shows that the entire document was written to protect and provide freedoms for the citizens of the United States. It does this by dividing power between the federal government and the states. It also protects individual liberties of American citizens.
