Every day, its six ferries transport both people and cars over the Penang Strait. Cars could be accommodated on the lower deck of either roll-on/roll-off boat or on both.
In 1894, the first ferry service across the Strait of Malacca connected Penang Island to the mainland.Quah Beng Kee, a businessman from Penang Island, and his four brothers founded a company called Beng Brothers and started this regular service. The ferries were later retrofitted to handle automobiles after being built originally to carry just passengers.

According to police, a ferry in central Bangladesh carrying up to 200 passengers capsized after being overcrowded.
After the boat sank some 30 kilometres (20 miles) south of the capital Dhaka, they reported that 50 passengers had been saved. There were too many people on the ferry. l According to the police chief of Madaripur, where the ferry's trip started, there were 170 to 200 people on board. In Bangladesh, ferry accidents are frequent, and overcrowding and subpar ship design and maintenance are frequently to blame. More than 230 rivers crisscross Bangladesh, one of Asia's poorest countries, and boats are the primary mode of transportation, particularly in the south and northeast.

Transport of people or goods via waterways is known as maritime transport or more broadly as waterborne transport. Throughout recorded history, shipping has been a common method of moving goods. Sea travel is common for quick excursions and leisure cruises. Transport over greater distances is substantially slower by water, but it is less expensive than air or ground transport. Approximately 80% of global trade will be carried out by maritime transport by 2020, according to UNCTAD.

By boat, ship, sailboat, or barge, over oceans and lakes, through canals, or along rivers, maritime transport is possible over any distance. Shipping can be done for business, fun, or even for the military. Even though extensive inland transportation is less vital today, the world's major waterways, including many canals, are still tremendously important and are crucial to the economies of all countries. Any material can be transported by water particularly but it becomes impracticable when the delivery of an item is time-sensitive, such as with different kinds of perishable produce. Even so, shipping over sea is very cost-effective for regularly scheduled cargoes like trans-oceanic consumer goods shipping, and notably for big loads or bulk cargoes like coal, coke, ores, or grains. The early effects of the industrial revolution may have been in the support of affordable bulk transportation provided by canal shipping, navigations, or shipping by various kinds of watercraft on natural waterways.

A ferry is a watercraft that carries passengers, and sometimes vehicles and cargo, across a body of water. A small passenger ferry with many stops, such as in Venice, Italy, is sometimes called a water bus or water taxi.

Ferries offer direct passage between sites at a capital cost significantly cheaper than bridges or tunnels, and they are an integral feature of the public transport systems of many waterside cities and islands. Ferry services are another name for ship connections that span much greater distances, and many of them transport automobiles (for example, across lengthy distances in water bodies like the Mediterranean Sea).

Large passenger ships known as cruise ships are employed mostly for leisure travel. In contrast to ocean liners, which are employed for transportation, cruise ships often set sail on round-trip cruises to numerous ports-of-call, where guests may take part in "shore excursions" such as tours. No ports of call are visited during the two- to three-night roundtrips known as "cruises to nowhere" or "nowhere voyages" by cruise ships.

In comparison to ocean liners, modern cruise ships typically have less hull strength, speed, and agility. Recent vessels, nevertheless, have been referred to as "balcony-laden floating condominiums" because of the facilities they have incorporated to cater to aquatic tourists.
In 2023, the world's largest passenger ship is Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas.

In my opinion, ferry offers more that the usefulness as a mean of transportation. The ferry has grown onto not only local but also in tourists who has visits the Malaysia coast just experience it one more time.

Ferry that operate in scenic areas or tourist destinations may focus on blending in with the natural environment. With open wide interior, ferry offers panoramic views, or open-air decks that allow passengers to appreciate the surrounding landscapes and enjoy the breeze. Like many people, I like to spend my time on the deck just to feel the breeze with my family and sometime recalling the best memories.

I am sad when Pulau Pinang ferry had put out of services, like I have lost one friend that always there for a comfort. A place to bonding with my family and a historic transportation to awe.

Ultimately, the aesthetics of a ferry are subjective and can vary depending on personal preferences. Some individuals may appreciate sleek and modern designs, while others may find charm in more traditional or rustic aesthetics. But to me, ferry offers beyond that.
