Introduction: What do you expect to learn? What is the purpose of this lab?

Freezing time and freezing temperature of different liquids are among the most important physical properties of that liquid. These physical properties may change when other materials are dissolved in or mixed with the liquids. This project will discover this subject using water and sugar that are both safe and available in most households.

Hypothesis:

plain water will freeze the fastest and saltwater the slowest. My reasons for this prediction are based upon the facts that (1) adding sugar or salt to water lowers the freezing point and (2) seawater hardly freezes.

Materials/Resources used for the experiment

5 clear plastic cups

Water

Sugar

Salt

Freezer

Procedure:

Clean water – 160 mml

1 table-spoon sugar water – 160 mml

2 tablespoon sugar water – 160 mml

1 tablespoon saltwater – 160 mml

2 tablespoons saltwater – 160 mml

The 1st Step - Pour the 5 different types of water in 5 separated clear plastic cups and put them in a freezer

The 2nd Step - Observe the 5 types of water in the freezer every 30 minutes

Explain your data in words:

All the cups got colder at 4:00 PM, Clear water was frozen on 5:00 Pm. 1Tbs sugar cup frozen at 6:00pm while 2 Tbs sugar cup frozen at 6:30 pm. Moving to salt; 1 tbs salt cup frozen at 10:30 pm. Clean water took 1 hour and 30 minute’s, 1 tbs of sugar to two hours and 30 minutes 2 Tbs of sugar took 3 hours. While 1 tbs of salt took 7 hours and 2 tbs of salt took 20 hours to frozen

Conclusion:

This experiment shows 2 conclusions confirming the proposed hypothesis. First, the plain water freezes first since it gets to its freezing temperature, while the sugar water and saltwater are still getting colder. And second, it also shows that the freezing point of saltwater is lower than that of sugar water. The second conclusion can explain that we hardly see frozen seawater, while there are many sweet ice stuffs.
