Pillars of iman

Assalamualaikum and hello!

For week 3, Sr. Zahra explained to us about the pillars of Iman, but we only discussed three out of the six pillars, which are belief in Allah, belief in the Malaikah, and belief in the Kutub .

1. Belief in Allah

A Muslim must have certainty that Allah is One, without partners or offspring. He is the Creator, the Sustainer, and the only One worthy of worship. This belief is strengthened through prayer, recitation of the Qur’an, and reflection on His creation.

2. Belief in the Malaikah

One must accept the existence of angels, who were created from light. They carry out Allah’s commands such as delivering revelation, recording deeds, and constantly glorifying Him. Even though they are unseen, their presence is real and part of faith.

3. Belief in Kutub

It is obligatory to believe in the divine scriptures revealed by Allah to His messengers, including the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel, and the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the final, perfect, and preserved book of guidance for all humanity. Its teachings are to be studied, understood, and applied in daily life.

Therefore, Believing in Allah, His angels, and His revealed books forms the core of a Muslim’s faith. These beliefs remind us of Allah’s oneness and greatness, the unseen world that carries out His commands, and the divine guidance sent through His scriptures. Together, they strengthen a believer’s connection with Allah and guide him to live a life of worship, obedience, and righteousness.

That’s all from me. Thank you☺️

Adab of seeking knowledge & Al-Qur’an as the Book of Guidance

Assalamualaikum and hello!

For Week 1, we had two agendas: First, we began by introducing ourselves and doing some ice-breaking activities. After that, Sr. Zahra shared about the adab of seeking knowledge and the Qur’an as the Book of Guidance.

Seeking knowledge in Islam is a noble act that brings a person closer to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever travels a path to seek knowledge, Allah will make easy for him the path to Paradise.” (Sahih Muslim 2699)

A student should observe both outward and inward manners in seeking knowledge:

Outward manners include preparing for class, taking notes, asking questions, reviewing lessons, and doing extra reading to show discipline and respect for learning.

Inward manners involve having sincere intention, a clear goal, respect for knowledge and teachers, and good character, which reflect the purity of one’s heart and purpose in seeking knowledge.

The real purpose of gaining knowledge isn’t just to pass exams or collect facts. It’s about becoming a better person and strengthening our connection with Allah. We should understand what we learn, why we learn, and how we learn. Education should shape us into better individuals, not just skilled workers. True learning includes four important aspects : learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be.

Al-Qur’an as the Book of Guidance

What: The Qur’an is the final and preserved revelation, different from previous books, providing complete guidance.

How: Learn about the Creator’s signs, Tawheed, stories of the Prophets, and the Seerah.

Best Way: Use reliable translations, trusted apps, and credible scholars (English, Arabic, local).

Why: To understand our role as Allah’s creation and fulfill our responsibilities.

Adab of the Qur’an (Quick Guide)

Before Reciting: Wudu, sit respectfully, start with Ta’awudh & Tasmiyah, use miswak.

While Reciting: Recite calmly, melodiously, pronounce letters correctly, don’t interrupt others.

Handling the Qur’an: Place it on a raised spot, glance at it daily, close it when done, always treat it with care and respect.

That’s all from me

Adab

Assalamualaikum and hello!

For week 6,the topic that Sr. Zahra had explained to us is about adab. Adab comes from the root meaning discipline. It refers to refinement, good manners, and proper conduct. It is both a quality and a process that can be learned. According to Imam Ibnul Qayyim, adab is practicing good character; it reflects a person’s disposition in both words and actions.

Adab vs Akhlaq

Akhlaq: Moral philosophy; focuses on why actions are right or wrong.

Adab: Practical application; focuses on proper or improper behavior.

Key Difference: Akhlaq explains the reasoning, while adab shows the practice (Hashi, 2011, p.122).

Adab towards parents

Adab towards parents is one of the most important teachings in Islam. After our duty to Allah, we are commanded to honour and respect our parents.

The story of Prophet Ibrahim A.S. in Surah Maryam (19:41–50) teaches us how to maintain good manners even when facing disagreement. Prophet Ibrahim A.S. spoke to his father with respect and wisdom while inviting him to the truth. When his father rejected and even threatened him, he remained calm and prayed for his father’s forgiveness instead of arguing.

Therefore, Among the adab we should observe are :

• Speaking to our parents kindly and with gentle words.

• Obeying them in all good and permissible matters.

• Helping and caring for them with love and patience.

• Avoiding harsh behaviour such as raising our voice, showing anger, or using hurtful words.

In conclusion, true adab towards parents means being patient, respectful, and compassionate in all situations. Showing kindness to our parents brings Allah’s mercy and blessings, strengthens family bonds, and leads us to success in this world and the Hereafter.

That’s all from me. Thank you

Assalamualaikum and hello!

For week 4, Sr. Zahra continued presenting the previous topic that we discussed, which is the Pillars of Iman. This time, we focused on the remaining three pillars, which are belief in Rasul and Anbiya, belief in the Hereafter, and belief in Qada’ and Qadar .

1. Belief in Rasul (Prophets)

Believing in the Prophets means accepting that they were chosen by Allah to guide humankind with truth and wisdom. They delivered His message sincerely, setting an example of obedience and good character for all believers to follow.

2. Belief in the Hereafter

Belief in the Hereafter reminds us that this world is temporary and that every action will be judged by Allah. It encourages Muslims to do good deeds, avoid sins, and prepare for eternal life after death.

3. Belief in Qada’ and Qadar

Believing in Qada’ and Qadar means understanding that everything happens by Allah’s will and knowledge. It teaches Muslims to accept both good and bad events with patience and trust in Allah’s perfect plan.

In conclusion, these beliefs strengthen a Muslim’s faith and character. By believing in the Prophets, the Hereafter, and Divine Decree, we develop sincerity, patience, and trust in Allah. They remind us that true peace and success come from submitting fully to Allah’s plan in this world and preparing for the next.

That’s all from me. Thank you☺️

So here, I will give my conclusion about this topic.

In conclusion, Ihsan and Eschatology are interconnected principles that shape a Muslim’s faith and actions. Ihsan inspires believers to worship and live with excellence, sincerity, and awareness of Allah’s presence. Eschatology, on the other hand, reminds Muslims of accountability in the Hereafter, motivating them to perform good deeds and avoid wrongdoing. Together, these concepts guide Muslims toward righteousness in this world and eternal success in the Hereafter.

That’s all from me. Thank you

Reflection on What I Gained from My Usrah

From the Usrah sessions, I have gained many meaningful lessons, especially from the story of Prophet Musa and Khidr in Surah Al-Kahf and the topic of Amanah. Through the story of Musa and Khidr, I learned that true knowledge requires patience (sabr), humility (tawadu‘), and complete trust in Allah’s plan. Sometimes, what appears to be a hardship may actually be a hidden blessing, as Allah’s wisdom is far beyond our understanding. This reminded me to stay calm, persevere, and always reflect before judging any situation.

Meanwhile, the session on Amanah taught me that being trustworthy and responsible is a key part of a Muslim’s character. Every duty whether to Allah, ourselves, others, or the environment is a trust that must be carried out sincerely and honestly. The verse from Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:8–11) also reminded me that those who are faithful to their trusts and prayers will be rewarded with Paradise.

Overall, both Usrah sessions helped me grow spiritually and morally. They strengthened my faith, discipline, and awareness that every challenge and responsibility in life is a test of trust from Allah. These lessons encouraged me to be more sincere, patient, and dependable in everything I do, whether as a student, friend, or member of society.

To make future Usrah sessions more impactful, I suggest adding more interactive and practical activities such as short video reflections, real-life case studies, and role-playing exercises. These methods would help members relate Quranic lessons to their daily lives and understand how values like sabr, tawadu‘, and amanah can be applied in real situations such as teamwork, leadership, and social responsibility.

It would also be beneficial to include personal tafakkur (reflection) activities, where participants write short reflections after each session or verse. This practice can help strengthen understanding, encourage self-awareness, and allow members to internalize the moral lessons more deeply and meaningfully.
