Week 1 Journal

I had the experience to make a video, but this is the first time for me to make a video with so much plan and requirement. I thought about many kinds of things I was interested in. However it's too hard to contact their managers on my own, then I found I can just find a personal organization that is closer to my life.

Finally, I decide to choose from “Valleta” (a group of video makers in China who all love a game called “Arknights”) and the place I am learning painting, which called “Lanyun Studio”(LYS).

Week 2 Journal

I believe that it is a good idea to make a video for LYS, the students and Miss Lan are all really glad to see such a work will be done for their studio, they invited me to take photos for the members in the studio and shared me a lot of videos in past years, those can really help me to finish my work.

Week 3 Journal

These days, Miss Lan organized the students' travel to Hainan in China, I didn’t go with them but they sent me a lot of photos and videos. Miss Lan told me these might help me to make the advertisement. The other teacher in the studio called Mr. Wang was helping the students who did not join the Hainan journal these days.

Week 4 Journal

LYS tried to start a public class on TikTok, Mr. Wang wants to use this way to make more people find the happiness they are able to get from painting. The public class didn’t attract many people on TikTok, but most of the students in LYS joined this class. I tried to ask them for a record but Mr.Wang said he forgot to do it. This week I also created an outline and started to collect materials for the advertisement I will make for them.

Week 5 Journal

I did not go to LYS this week because of the Qing Ming holiday in China. I started to load my design journal into padlet and html, looking for the resources and do the typesetting. Check the photos taken by myself and some past photos which took by Miss Lan. While the holiday, Miss Lan find a lot of photos that can be useful for me, and I check them and choose some that can be useful in my video.

After searching for how to make my advertisement, I found my decision of original video does not look like an advertisement, it seems like a documentary. People prefer to see something that can attract them at first. So the starting of my video will be changed. The concrete change will be decided during the making of the advertisement.

Introduction To LYS

I choose Lanyun Studio(LYS) as my topic, this is a studio that created by Lan Yun, which graduateed in “Xian Academy of Fine Arts”, the top 10 Chinese Art college. Like a normal Chinese graduator She faced tones of stress in her life when she was just graduated. She tried to work in many different kinds of company, some of them are really famous and success and some of them are just closer to her home, however, none of them made her feel happy and enjoyable. Finally, she decided to build her own studio and become an art teacher. The bad memory of work in past years influence her idea of this studio, she do not want this place just become somewhere that is only for people to learn painting but another home for the students.

Additional Information about LYS

In LYS, students do not just learn painting, Miss Lan also tough us about Tea Ceremony and invite us taste her tea and coffee , also he candy are always offered there. Some of the students there are just about 10 years old and some of them have married for 10 years. All of them drawing and talking day by day, without any generation gap.

Start - the logo of LYS, pictures of daily life in LYS with some introduction subtitle (can be canceled because the time might not enough). About 10 second

Middle - interview the students in LYS, about 3? or 4 people.

First: Miss Lan, about the idea of LYS and some of the work of her (if the introduction is not available at the starting of the video, put the introduction subtitle here. ),

Second and Third (if have): some of the main students in LYS, I prefer princess and miss Zhang (nickname), talk with them about learning here, some of the work they have done, and some daily videos of them. Both of these two girls are learned here when LYS was just built

End: maybe an interview for Mr.Wang. He is not really good at talking, so this will depend on whether the interview can be good enough. Mr. Wang is the main teacher when we learning drawing, so maybe I can add some videos or work of him.

From the first part to the second and third part: a short and easy video around the scenery in LYS. Include the main room, tea room, child painting room, and a small room for some easy practice. About 5 seconds. Just a show of LYS.

From the second and third parts to the End part: some daily videos and the pictures painted by students here. Add some photos of a fish called red and some flowers can be a good choice if time is enough.

Some problems: for a short advertisement, this video might be some long, so I might cut much of the interview? So save the time of this video, everything should wait until the first video is made.

Some Advices

Miss Lan thinks this video should not just show this studio is a painting studio, but also show that all the members here are friends or even families here. She thinks the most important is a good atmosphere. After that, people can fall in love with a painting by their heart.

Target Audience

The target audience for my advertisement is quiet simple. They are mostly Chinese audience in Zheng Zhou, Henan, without any limit on age, gender or any other things. Anyone who are interested in painting in this area are the target audience.

Some additional things after Week 5

Changes in the main part: the starting of the video should be the time we drink tea and coffee, silent music, and cut off the noise we made. Show a good environment around us. Then build a relaxed and free feeling for LYS, this is more likely to how the art can be in Chinese people’s mind. Reduce the interview as much as possible because the audience cannot pay so much attention to speaking. But the interview cannot be canceled. Some of the “boring introduction” can also make the audience feel better. Not music video for the whole advertisement and not a documentary. It is better to create a short film, I decide to make a short film that shows how Miss Lan feels when she just creates this studio (worry, lonely, poor) and how we are now (happiness, just like home. ), for example, use the video that Miss Lan took about celebrate many kinds of Chinese festival.

Color choose: mostly warm color can make people feel closer to the artist (if they believe painting is art). some green and blue filters, show the main feeling of LYS.

To make my advertisement can attract its target audience, all the changes after week 5 are decided after the statistic from Chinese people. This can make Chinese targets know this video is about something about art at first and feel it is close to their life when they finish watching.

Because this kind of studio can attract ladies aged around 40 (the actual situation of LYS, the elder ladies are over half of the students there, another group is women which are just graduated and started working. I am almost the youngest one in LYS except for the children around 10. ). So I asked my family to find the type of video they prefer to watch. Then I got a such type of video.

My advertisement will be different because I must add some introduction to LYS. The advertisement will not only be such a music video. Also, my video show will be a whole story but not some simple photos. However, this video provides a perfect feeling that can attract Chinese lady age over 40. They prefer the happiness in their life and the beauty around them.

This article aims to show the things that should consider when making a video. The most helpful thing for me is it pointed the importance of the emotion of the target audience. In an attraction video, the video maker must create an atmosphere that can hold your target audiences' minds. It is easier to be achieved in a short film. It also made a short explanation about what should light and audio be in a professional video.

Different kinds of fonts can create different feelings before the readers just pointed to your website. It pointed that the website can use different fonts to distinguish the main part and different titles. However, there shouldn't have over 3 kinds of different fonts on one page. Then, they told about the art of typography to help readers understand what kind of fonts should be used where.
