"The axe forgets, but the tree remembers."

The african proverb "the axe forgets but the tree remembers" is a metaphor for the bad deeds we do and push out of our heads. This proverb is trying to express that when someone commits a transgression, instead of trying rehabilitate the problem, they ignore it, as well as their morality and dignity. But the "tree" or people who are burdened by another, remember and preserve their anger until they can get their vengeful revenge. I think that this proverb is trying to tell us to watch our back and also to not brush things off just because we'd rather not deal with them.
A example of this proverb is bullies in school. If you have ever been bullied, you know that it sticks with you. You always remember the things people said to push you down and the way they treated you. But the bully soon forgets and moves on. They don't realize the damage they've done.
