What is Education to me?

Education is the fundamental building blocks of the skills and knowledge each person is expected to know by the end of their years studying in school. You start with the baby steps of learning letters and numbers then sentences and before you know it the student is reading. With the help of each teacher and parent along the way by the end of high school a student should be able to make essays, research papers, solve math problems that could take up half a sheet of paper. We go from tiny things to making leaps in school and each step along the way is included in the students education. I'm positive if a child was told on the first day of Kindergarten that by the time they finished school they could do a whole list of things they would be in disbelief but with hard work and dedication they can end up with a diploma and an education they can be thankful for.

Why Teaching?

I want to help students whether it be academically, emotionally or physically. I want my room to be a safe place for each of my students.

A place where they feel they can do anything or be anything they want to be. Whether they need someone to make them smile, feel special, help them learn to use a new word every week. I want to make them feel like they are the most important person even if it's only for a minute. I want all these things because a teacher my husband had in high school did all these things. She was able to help him when he became homeless. She always had extra snacks in her room for her students to eat no questions asked. She never needed to know who was taking what or why because all that mattered is that her students were able to eat. She often would have jackets or extra clothes available or knew resources for a student to be able to get the things they needed. Because of her love for all her students she taught me no matter the bad days each child should have at least one person to lean on.

What I can give to my students

I am wanting to teach high school history. Our history has brought us to where we are today and if we make the mistakes of our past we will be reliving history. It's important that each student know our countries foundation and what it stands for. It's also important for them to discover other parts of the world and how even if they think the history of others may not impact them it does. We may not have seen or currently see things such as the holocaust but it can't be ignored non the less. Each student should be able to take lessons from my class and be able to make America a great place to live for future generations. Maybe not every minor who comes through my doors will do something amazing but if I help even one student become something great then my time as a teacher will be worth it.

My goal when teaching.

My personal goal for my future classroom is to challenge students and watch them grow. Each student who walks through my door will learn differently if I can help them learn ways that work best for them to learn while helping them open up to others who might not be in their social group or click. I also want to create a classroom that is a safe learning environment for all. If students do not feel safe in my classroom, whether it is emotionally, physically, or socially, their defense systems will go up and learning will will be no easy task if they are willing to learn at all.
