In 1968 protests by Chicano students against unequal conditions in Los Angeles Unified School District high schools. ... The students who organized and carried out the protests were primarily concerned with the quality of their education and fought for a better service They felt they were receiving a substandard education because they were Mexicans and Mexican Americans. This event is important as people are fighting for their rights and educational needs to help them and the protests allowed them to show others they wanted change and they wanted improvements.

The movement was an active political party representing Mexican-American racial identity politics. The goal of the organization was developing and strengthening other local organizations, and promoting empowerment, voter registration, leadership development, and other forms of advocacy. This was important as they wanted to encourage more involvement in politics of Chicanos, or Mexican Americans. They wanted more Mexican-Americans in government and more Chicanos voting. It also advocated for bilingual education and the rights of women and laborers.
