Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature due to human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases. Here are some key facts:

1. Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas responsible for global warming, contributing about 76% of the total global emissions from human activity.

Methane (CH4), though less abundant, is far more potent in trapping heat in the atmosphere—about 25 times more powerful than CO2 over a 100-year period.

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is another significant greenhouse gas, largely emitted by agricultural practices and industrial activities.

2. Global Temperature Rise

The Earth's average temperature has risen by approximately 1.2°C (2.2°F) since the late 19th century, with most of the warming occurring in the past few decades.

The last five years (2018-2022) have been the hottest on record, according to NASA and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

3. Melting Ice and Rising Sea Levels

The warming climate is causing glaciers and ice sheets to melt, particularly in the Arctic, Greenland, and Antarctica.

As ice melts, it contributes to rising sea levels, which have risen by about 8-9 inches (20-23 cm) in the past century.

Projections suggest that sea levels could rise by up to 3 feet (1 meter) by 2100, displacing millions of people in coastal areas

Ocean Warming and Acidification

Oceans absorb about 90% of the excess heat from global warming, leading to warmer waters, which impacts marine ecosystems.

Rising CO2 levels also increase ocean acidification, which harms coral reefs, shellfish, and other marine life forms.

Fossil fuels take a very long time to form and we humans are depleting it faster than it can form. This causes the depletion of natural resources which are limited. We will run out of these resources in the future if humans do not stop this.

1. Changes in Agricultural Pests and Invasive Species

Spread of Invasive Species: Warmer climates allow invasive species—both plants and animals—to thrive and spread into new regions. These species often outcompete native ones, disturbing ecosystems and agriculture.

Shift in Pest Habitats: Warmer temperatures are causing pests like locusts, weeds, and insects to thrive in areas that were previously too cold for them, putting crops at risk and affecting food production.

2. Changes in Soil Quality and Fertility

Soil Degradation: Rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns can result in increased soil erosion and desertification. Soil moisture levels fluctuate, reducing fertility and making it harder to grow crops.

Loss of Soil Carbon: Warming temperatures accelerate the decomposition of organic material in the soil, releasing carbon that had been stored in the earth. This feedback loop contributes to further warming.

3. Increased Frequency of Wildfires

More Frequent Fires: Global warming is lengthening the fire season and increasing the frequency of wildfires, especially in areas like California, Australia, and the Amazon.

Forest Health: Wildfires destroy habitats, forests, and homes, while also creating a vicious cycle. They release carbon and other greenhouse gases, worsening climate change. Additionally, fires kill vital ecosystems, such as oak woodlands and tropical rainforests.

4. Altered River and Lake Ecosystems

Water Temperature Changes: Rising temperatures affect freshwater ecosystems by raising water temperatures, which disrupts aquatic life, such as fish populations. Species like salmon and trout are particularly sensitive.

Shifts in Water Flow: Climate change affects the flow of rivers and lakes, with some experiencing decreased water levels during droughts or increased runoff during intense storms. These fluctuations harm freshwater ecosystems and reduce water availability for human use.

Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or contaminants into the natural environment that cause adverse effects on ecosystems, human health, and the overall balance of nature. These pollutants can come in various forms, such as gases, liquids, solids, or even noise, light, and heat. Pollution is a result of human activities, though natural events like wildfires or volcanic eruptions can also contribute to pollution.

At its core, pollution disrupts the natural processes that maintain environmental balance. This includes the air we breathe, the water we drink, the land that grows our food, and even the ecosystems that support life.

Key Points About Pollution:

Contamination: Pollution involves the release of harmful substances that contaminate the air, water, land, or any other part of the environment.

Human Impact: Most pollution is driven by human activities like industrial production, agriculture, transportation, and improper waste disposal.

Harmful Effects: Pollution can harm wildlife, damage ecosystems, affect human health (e.g., respiratory diseases, cancer, or neurological disorders), and even contribute to global issues like climate change.

Non-Visible Forms: Some forms of pollution, like noise or light pollution, may not be immediately visible but can still have significant effects on health and the environment.

Pollution's Overall Impact:

Health Risks: Air pollution, for example, can cause respiratory diseases, while water pollution can lead to waterborne diseases.

Environmental Degradation: Pollution can harm wildlife and disrupt natural processes like nutrient cycling, which supports plant and animal life.

Climate Change: Pollution, especially from greenhouse gases, contributes to global warming and climate instability.

Essentially, pollution is anything that disrupts the natural environment, causing harm to both the living and non-living components of the ecosystem. Reducing pollution often requires awareness, policy changes, and the adoption of cleaner, more sustainable practices.

Global warming is the process in which the earth gains heat from different causes such as the increase in gases such as carbon dioxide as carbon dioxide is a gas that traps heat and will increase the heat retained from the sun light hitting earth and reflecting back into carbon dioxide the main causes is human activities such as factory emissions and cars also contribute to global emissions as temperatures rise , the temperature rises which causes hot places get hotter wet places to get wetter and this is just at 1.2 Celsius increase from global temperatures rise. extreme weather events e.g flooding also increase if it goes past 2 Celsius more then these extremity’s become more extreme more ecosystems will be under pressure and some will not survive at three Celsius increase major countries especially developing countries will not be able to feed their population and heat waves become a major problem globally large scale natural systems will breakdown and hurricanes and tornadoes will increase in frequency. Fires and drought will increase and the may be trillions in damage it will also cause poor farmers and people who are poor will be hit hardest and will have to relocate by the millions at 4 - 8 Celsius increases the earth becomes apocalyptic and the hot earth will change so fast that it will be unable to support humans as billions perish and earth becomes alien and unrecognisable and… THERE IS NOTHING TO BE DONE.

Global warming refers to the long-term increase in Earth's average surface temperature due to human activities, particularly the release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat, causing the planet to warm up, which can lead to a variety of environmental and societal impacts. Here are some key points about global warming:

1. Greenhouse Effect

The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon where certain gases in the atmosphere trap heat from the sun. Without it, Earth would be too cold to support life. However, human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels, have increased the concentration of these gases, intensifying the greenhouse effect and causing global temperatures to rise.

2. Human Activities Driving Global Warming

Burning Fossil Fuels: Activities like coal, oil, and natural gas burning for electricity and transportation are the largest contributors.

Deforestation: Trees absorb CO₂, and cutting them down means less CO₂ is being absorbed from the atmosphere.

Industrial Agriculture: Practices like rice cultivation release methane, and livestock farming (especially cows) produces significant amounts of methane as well.

3. Effects of Global Warming

Rising Sea Levels: Melting polar ice caps and glaciers, combined with thermal expansion of ocean water as it warms, are causing sea levels to rise. This threatens coastal communities and ecosystems.

Extreme Weather Events: Global warming increases the frequency and intensity of heatwaves, storms, hurricanes, and droughts.

Ecosystem Disruption: Changes in temperature and weather patterns can threaten biodiversity, lead to habitat loss, and disrupt food chains.

Ocean Acidification: Higher CO₂ levels are also absorbed by the oceans, making them more acidic and threatening marine life, especially coral reefs.

4. Impact on Human Health

Heat-Related Illnesses: More frequent and intense heatwaves can lead to heatstroke and other heat-related health issues, especially in vulnerable populations.

Spread of Diseases: Changing climate conditions can expand the range of diseases transmitted by insects, such as malaria, dengue, and Zika.

Air Quality: Warmer temperatures can increase air pollution, leading to respiratory issues, especially in urban areas.

5. Mitigation and Adaptation

Renewable Energy: Transitioning to solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources helps reduce CO₂ emissions.

Energy Efficiency: Using less energy to perform tasks (e.g., energy-efficient appliances, better insulation, and public transportation) reduces overall emissions.

Carbon Capture: Technologies that capture and store CO₂ emissions before they reach the atmosphere are being developed.

Reforestation: Planting trees and restoring forests help absorb more CO₂.

International Agreements: Agreements like the Paris Agreement aim to limit global temperature rise to below 2°C (preferably 1.5°C) above pre-industrial levels.

6. The 1.5°C and 2°C Targets

Scientists agree that keeping global warming well below 2°C, and ideally to 1.5°C, compared to pre-industrial levels is crucial to avoid the most catastrophic effects. At 2°C, risks like extreme heat, extreme weather events, and sea-level rise are expected to become much more severe.

7. The Role of Individuals

While governments and large corporations play a massive role, individuals can contribute too:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Cutting down on waste can help reduce the amount of carbon emissions associated with manufacturing and landfill operations.

Change Eating Habits: Reducing meat consumption, especially beef and lamb, can lower methane emissions and deforestation linked to agriculture.

Use Public Transportation or Carpooling: This reduces the carbon emissions associated with personal car use.

Conserve Energy: Simple actions like using energy-efficient light bulbs, unplugging devices, and switching to renewable energy sources can make a difference.

8. Climate Justice

Global warming disproportionately affects poorer countries that contribute the least to emissions. These nations often face more extreme impacts, like flooding, droughts, and food insecurity. Climate justice advocates for policies that address these disparities and provide support to vulnerable populations.

In Summary:

Global warming is a critical, complex issue that requires collective action. While it presents numerous challenges, it's also an opportunity for innovation and global cooperation. Reducing emissions, transitioning to clean energy, and protecting ecosystems are key to mitigating the worst effects of global warming and securing a sustainable future.

Burning of fuels:

The most significant human-induced source of greenhouse gases comes from the burning of fossil fuels for energy. This includes coal, oil, and natural gas for electricity generation, transportation, and industrial processes.

Burning fossil fuels releases large amounts of, the most prevalent greenhouse gas associated with global warming.

Deforestation and Land Use Changes:

Forests, wetlands, and other natural ecosystems act as carbon sinks, meaning they absorb more carbon dioxide than they release.

Global warming is the increase in the earth’s temperature. Is is mainly caused by the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation and many other factors. Deforestation is the process where we cut down trees . With more trees cut down, there are less plants to photosynthesis and the amount of carbon dioxide in the air increases. Carbon dioxide traps heat in the air and the global temperature increases, causing global warming. The increase in global temperature causes the ice to melt. Polar bears will not have a habitat. With less trees, there are less roots to hold the soil together. This causes soil erosion.

Do you know what deforestation is?

Deforestation is the clearing or thinning of large forested areas. When we decrease the number of trees, there are harmful effects that will not only harm the Earth, but also, us.

Deforestation leads to the increase in the Earth’s temperature, soil erosion and disruption in the water cycle. So many harmful effects that would harm the Earth, and most importantly, harm us.

But why would we cut down trees when we are fully aware of the consequences?

Well, there are a number of reasons. Number one, to make space for agriculture- which is the practice of cultivating land and raising crops or livestock.

Number two, to obtain wood for fuel. Scientific research shows that scientist working for big oil companies knew long ago that deforestation and burning coal for fuel would cause climate change. But big oil companies such as Exxon Mobil, hid the truth from us and suppressed media( along with reporters) from spreading the truth.

Lastly number three, for infrastructure. Forests are cleared to make space for infrastructure primarily due to the expansion of human populations and economics. As cities grow and populations increase, there is a greater demand for housing. This often leads to the conversion of forested land into urban areas, roads and other development projects.

The collaboration builds on a slate of recent scientific studies finding that between 80-89% of the world's population want stronger climate action. This is an overwhelming global majority, however, does not realise that they are a majority; most think their fellow citizens don't agree- they think that they are the minority. Hence, they do not let their voices be heard- including Singapore.

Global warming is mainly because of greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has many different types of air such as: Water vapour, Carbon dioxide, Nitrous oxide, Methane and Chlorofluorocarbon.More of greenhouse gases between the earth and the ozone layer will trap more heat. This will cause more ice to melt, this causes a chain reaction which increases sea level, causing small island, like Singapore, to sink. The burning of the fossil fuels will increase carbon dioxide in the air. This will result in: ocean life, weather changes, decrease in food and the human health. More sustainable energy and lesser usage of natural resources can help the earth.

What is pollution?

Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or energy into the environment, causing adverse changes. These substances, called pollutants, can be naturally occurring or man-made and can contaminate air, water, and land.Pollution can negatively impact living organisms, including humans, and disrupt thenatural balance of ecosystems.

What are the main issues of pollution?

There are many issues of pollution and they negatively impact human health, ecosystems , and global climate. These issues include air and water pollution, climate change, and the degradation of natural habitats. Specifically, air pollution contributes to respiratory issues in humans. While water pollution can often lead to the harm of aquatic life. Climate change, emitted by greenhouse gases, results in extreme weather events and rising sea levels. Moreover,Air pollutants can damage ecosystems by harming plants, contaminating soil and water, and contributing to biodiversity loss. Polluted water bodies can harm aquatic life, leading to fish deaths, loss of biodiversity, and disruption of aquatic ecosystems. Pollution, including air, water, and land pollution, damages ecosystems, leading to habitat loss, biodiversity loss, and disruption of ecological balance.

Natural resource depletion is the unsustainable consumption or exhaustion of essential natural resources—such as water, minerals, forests, fossil fuels, and biodiversity—at a rate that exceeds their natural rate of replenishment or regeneration. This phenomenon is primarily driven by industrialization, urbanization, population growth, and excessive consumption patterns, all of which place increasing pressure on these finite resources.

The depletion of natural resources results in the gradual scarcity of vital commodities necessary for economic development, human well-being, and environmental stability. For example, the over-extraction of groundwater can lead to aquifer depletion, threatening agricultural productivity and water availability for populations. Similarly, the over-mining of mineral resources and fossil fuels not only diminishes resource availability but also exacerbates environmental degradation, including habitat destruction, soil erosion, and pollution. Deforestation, driven by logging, agriculture, and urban expansion, further disrupts ecosystems, contributing to biodiversity loss, climate change, and soil degradation.

From an economic standpoint, resource depletion may lead to significant volatility in commodity prices, particularly as resources become scarcer and more costly to extract. This can create imbalances in the global market and affect countries that depend heavily on resource extraction for their economic stability. Moreover, the depletion of resources often results in diminishing returns, where it becomes increasingly difficult and expensive to extract remaining reserves, ultimately leading to economic inefficiency.

In addition to the direct environmental and economic impacts, resource depletion has profound implications for human health and security. The depletion of resources such as arable land, fresh water, and energy sources can exacerbate poverty, lead to food and water scarcity, and fuel geopolitical tensions. It also exacerbates climate change, as many resource-extraction processes release significant amounts of greenhouse gases and contribute to atmospheric pollution.

Ultimately, natural resource depletion underscores the need for sustainable resource management, conservation efforts, and the development of alternative technologies to mitigate the long-term effects of over-consumption. A shift toward a circular economy, increased investment in renewable energy sources, and the promotion of responsible consumption are vital strategies for ensuring the preservation of these resources for future generations.

Resources are depleted when it is being used faster than it can replenish itself. The industrial revolution is when it all began. As our culture advanced and our species invented many things that will make our lives easier, our demand for raw materials increased by leaps and bounds. We get these resources from the other. The problem is, we’re using too much and without care. Our planet just can’t keep up with our ever increasing demands.
