Databases are very common- they are every where - could be your shopping list, calender , ebay, yellowpages, (electronic version as well.

Database- Persistant, organized store of data.

We can search faster for things and filter things more quickly

It is persistent because if we enter it into a hard disc it is permanent. You can store databases in a spread sheets.
