World War 1 (1914-1918)

Worldwide conflict involving two major parties, the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The war began after Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. Franz's death triggered a chain of events in which powers in Europe divided and fought for four long years. World War 1 was a war that raged between governmental ideals. The senseless violence was not fought for blood, but over control. While war raged on the battlefield, control over the people was also established through political ads designed to justify each side of the war.

Prohibition (18th Amendment): 1919

Prohibition was the attempt to ban alcohol. This did not work out though because it only lead to bootlegging, speakeasies, and distilling operations. The president at the time, Franklin D. Roosevelt, did not enforce this amendment well. With the stock market crash this only made the citizens desire to drink higher.

The Great Depression (1929 - 1939)

What happened: Events in the United States economically ruined it's economy and spread to the rest of the world causing poverty, unemployment and businesses failures.

What was the cause: The stock market crashed, a Huge dustbowl, and banking failures, cused the world to go to crises mode.

Herbert Hoover

Hoover was an engineer before he became a president and he used this to push for the living standards that we have today.

World War 2 (1939-1945)

The deadliest conflict in history involved almost every country in the world. Two primary sides, the Axis and Allied powers, fought for their own ideals. The leading cause of WW2 was unresolved conflict from WW1, which left Germany's government and economy weak. Remorse built up and eventually escalated into war.

Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin had a major impact on how we think about science today. He challenged the traditional religious views of how the world was created. Without his influence we would not have the same perspective on the creation of the world as we do today.

The Sinking of the Titanic (April 15, 1912)

What happened: 1500 people were killed in a sinking of the ship famously known and the titanic. the boat supposedly "indistruckable" broke in half and sunk.

What was the cause: The ran into an iceberg and significantly damage the ship's hull and compartments, breaking it and causing it to sink.
