This was made on photoshop overlaying watercolour paintings, i did to create this textured and colourful piece, the lines are quite chaotic and have a lot of movement. The original research on this piece was frank bowling where i did many iterations of watercolour paintings and this is the final outcome i delivered.

Crossness final design progression

I've included this image because I feel it clearly depicts how I've learned the skills to develop an idea from a brief and deliver it in a final product. Upon reflection of this specific project, I believe I clearly yet delicately encapsulated the environment of Crossness - achieved through my use of shape language, analysis of colour palette, and experimentation with adding texture to flat colour layers to bring the character to life. This wouldn't have been possible without my primary and secondary research collected throughout the project which, prior to taking part in this course, I would never have considered a remotely important part in my creative process. I can now see it's benefits, in that it is through my research that my illustration skills and personal visual language develops to a better level.

For this project I created my poster using Riso printer. This type of printing allowed me to experiment with use of different neon colours. For my background I used a large paint brush to create this texture and ink and printmaking techniques for my image and adding these into photoshop to further play around with the scale of these graphics to then consider the space and proportions of these in my overall design.

This was a sketch I did right at the beginning during the theme of Error. I took a picture of the sky from the perspective of my room and it came out blurry, the lines weren’t defined all I could really work out were the shapes of the trees and the moon through a blurred form which I liked so I attempted to replicate that. I then used this to develop refine the placement of the shadows and lighter shading to reflect what appeared to be the lighter end of the sky in the picture and where the darker, rougher texture began.

This drawing, inspired by research done on Richard Long's photography, contains two faces split in half by a central line. The left face has a rough texture, and darker lines for the features, whereas the right face has no colour with emphasis put on its contrasting shape. I discovered several pictures by Richard Long, almost all of which were in black and white, and many had prominent lines within the images which would stick out amongst their surroundings.

For my research, I wanted to create a piece using multiple locations rather than one and found various collage artists but I was particularly inspired by David Hockney’s style.

This collage is made up of 27 buildings (all the houses I’ve lived in growing up) I wanted to create a collage that resembled a shape of a House, I cut a variety of pieces from the 27 houses such as the windows, doors, roofs, chimneys and mixed them around. I discovered that I still had to think about the proportion and movement so underneath the collage I drew out the shape before sticking it into my sketchbook.
