Explanation

SDG 13 focuses on addressing the human-induced climate crisis. In 2015, the Paris Agreement was established aiming to reduce climate change and its adverse effects. The effects of climate change pose a threat to both humans and nature.

Here are two arguments for choosing SDG 15 to focus on :

1. Global Importance: SDG 15 addresses critical issues affecting terrestrial ecosystems, forests, and biodiversity worldwide. By choosing this goal, you can delve into topics such as deforestation, habitat loss, endangered species conservation, and the impact of human activities on land ecosystems, demonstrating the relevance and urgency of these issues on a global scale. We can also investigate the impact festivals have on their surroundings.

2. Interconnectedness with Other Goals: Achieving SDG 15 contributes to the accomplishment of several other Sustainable Development Goals. For instance, healthy terrestrial ecosystems support clean water (SDG 6) and food security (SDG 2) by regulating water cycles and providing habitats for pollinators and agricultural species. Furthermore, addressing land degradation and desertification (SDG 15) can mitigate climate change (SDG 13) by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and promoting carbon sequestration in forests and soils. The festival implements sustainable practices such as waste reduction and recycling, promoting eco-friendly transportation options, and sourcing food and materials from local and organic suppliers to minimize its environmental impact. Roskilde Festival also collaborates with environmental organizations to raise awareness about biodiversity conservation and supports projects aimed at preserving and restoring natural habitats in Denmark and around the world.
