I feel like today it's very hard to go out your way and create something new. Because of this we tend to look at others. If you find yourself interested in what they do then you could be influenced enough to go out your way to replicate that. Though I did mention replicate, it would still be done in a unique fashion in most cases. It's you yourself that understands your own identity, and because of that your replication will still represent you yourself.

This connection is long, you will find it's connections of today extend back far beyond the 1900s. Dr.Dre is a producer that most likely wouldn't have been in the position he is today if it wasn't for those that influenced his actions. I myself am apart of this connection, I'm influenced by others to go about what it is that influences me, then do it my own way.

Dr.Dre

Introduction

As of today the artist Dr.Dre is well known for his career in the Hip-Hop & Rap industry. Starting off as an amateur composer from Compton California, to the business giant of what he is today. It’s a story full of ups and downs, but most importantly a story of success. Today I’ll be talking about how Dr.Dre has changed the Hip-Hop & Rap industry, and how that it wouldn’t be in the same place today without him.

The Beginning

In the early days Dr.Dre would go out his way to perform live playing other artists music. This was a means to earn money so he could push his career in the right direction. Andre Romelle (Dr.Dre) was an attentive person and always put his skill to use, so when it came to production he would only settle for a specific standard, so that he could be satisfied with his work. The Akai MPC 3000 was a stereo digital sampler that Dr.Dre used at the time.

N.W.A Group

It’s a group that’s well known for its influence in the Hip-Hop & Rap industry. Hit songs such as “F tha Police”, “Alwayz Into Somethin'” and “Hello” where songs that sparked controversy all round. The aggressive stance that didn’t just fight police brutality, but the view society had on their culture as a whole. It’s something many can argue… I know it’s hard to say if these songs truly had bad influence on people at the time, however, it’s known for sure that if it was not for the aggressive retaliation they had against society, then not only Dr.Dre but the group N.W.A wouldn’t have gone as recognised.

Group Controversy

There was a time where the group has a falling. The group was going through doubts, these doubts where sparked when they started questioning their manager, Jerry Hellar. There was dragged out delays with contracts, due to that Ice Cube decided to drop out of N.W.A and do his own thing. Easy-E and Ice Cube went back and forth with songs that where being viewed all-round America and some other areas around the world. The group N.W.A was very popular at this time, and Ice Cube was doing well himself even though he was no longer apart of the group.

Death of a Legend

Eric Lynn Wright (Easy-E) had bad blood with a guy called, Suge Knight. Suge was notorious for his bully tactics in the industry, going out his way to threaten people to get his way. It’s not entirely sure if Surge was the reason for Eric’s death, even though Suge did publicly say some questionable things on live television. This pushed something that the group did not expect, the big seven of N.W.A was no more, and the six that were still alive at the time received a big push in attention. There where people now sympathizing with the group members for their loss, which brought them a lot of attention, even from those that never went out their way to listen to their music.

Ø https://youtu.be/jiBXJR94hdA

Aftermath

After the death of Easy-E the group of N.W.A was then no longer what it was before. There was Ice Cube that has already left the group, which had already had the group in shambles. Dr.Dre at this point had the idea to leave Death Row Records and create his own (Aftermath Records).

This record label today is well known by many people that have an interest in Hip-hop & Rap industry. Many famous artists where under the label. Eminem was one of them. Dr.Dre saw something in Eminem and decided to go ahead and add him to the label. Though he didn’t produce all the tracks Eminem had made at the time he did get to make songs with Eminem while rapping on the track.

His influence at this point was already well received and liked by a large audience. This helped to push Eminem’s brand which in turn changed the industry even further.

Products & Branding

Headphones was a big step for Dr.Dre. This pushed not only his wealth, but his music even futher. The headphones where a big hit, and a lot of people where buying them. They were sleak and sounded good, and due to this a lot of people bought them. This effect made more people look into who Dr.Dre was, which pushed his popularity even further.

All these events throughout Dr.Dre’s career is what helped him become the man that he is today. It’s the ups and the downs… His life is truly something to be inspired by, it is something I find myself influenced by. I just hope that I don’t get as much drama as Dr.Dre did throughout his career.

Source Material

Ø https://www.biography.com/people/dr-dre-507628

Ø https://www.britannica.com/biography/Dr-Dre

Ø https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Dre

There is a state where your mind becomes clouded and you have yourself lost in dark emotions.

Once the drums begin to kick in there becomes a rush of
despair. This despair is repetitive and ever going. Though you're already feeling down, there is a mid point where you're at complete loss for hope, you then being to put yourself into a deeper trance of darker emotions.

The mid section where the drums become more distant and ambient, it's a section that does not last till the end of the track. This section is a part where your sanity begins to turn on and off. But due to the nature of this feeling, it begins to creep back. Then these emotions then go back to the state of despair as the drums are re-introduced.

In life you will have your ups and downs. But as the audio of the piano is introduced it's there to give you a feeling of hope, as if there was a light at the end of the tunnel. When the final final note on the piano is played, it's there to be more symbolic of the pain you endured fading away.

Critical Reflection

(1/3) Me in 3

Though it was a pretty simple task… I think it’s something that put me in a position to really think about what inspires me creatively. I’m the kind of person that does not go out his way to really stop and think “why” do I do what I do creatively and is it because something else has inspired me. I’d just say that I compose music because I like music…

(2/3) Mapping your interests

I’ve always felt strong about stories where the protagonist is always fighting for something. A person that really goes out their way to make something of themselves. This feeling is especially strong when that person themselves is fighting to get out of an already devastating situation. I’d say I’m the kind of person that is influenced by the rap industry. The connection between the music and the culture are both connected (Emotionally & Physically).

(3/3) Getting to know the library

I’d say I’m considerably influenced by the artist “Dr.Dre”. However, I don’t really know that much about the guy. If I’m put into a position to really think about why I’m inspired by him, id struggle, so my knowledge is lacking in that field. I think if I had a better understanding of the artist I would most likely find myself to be even more influenced.

(4/6) Media Hunt

I am most definitely not the greatest when it comes to making good “arguments”. Though I have strong beliefs, it’s definitely something I could improve on.

(5/6) Description and genre

Overall, I’d say I just say I need to improve my ability to describe particular things. Things such as creating good references, and not just random sources is another.

(6/6) The influences of your influences

Not sure if most people look into what influences those that influence them. But I sure never even thought about looking into something such as that. It put me in a position to look into someone I didn’t know much about. For me it’s interesting that the person that influences you, is influenced by someone that’s close to what they’re.

(8/10) Paired Project

Just working in a group with Johnny was interesting. We were able to create someone that really reflected Johnny’s reality. It’s amazing how powerful a piece of media can be, the layers of emotion and meaning it can have is what makes it truly special.

(9 & 10) 800 Word Genealogy of Influence

For me it was something that put me in a position that had me put more thought into what I researched. I’d say I have a long way to go before I can actually contextualise my discussion and analysis.

(11/13) Presentation

I’m very put off when it comes to performing in front of a large crowd when I have to present something. If I’m not presenting, then I like to think of myself as a fairly confident and outgoing person, however it might not be enough to help with presentations.

(12/13) Genre Mashup

Though I did used an older track I had already made. I decided to go ahead and complete the project so I can call it a full track. Mixing trap, horror and cinematic vibes.

(13/3) Critical reflection

Overall a fairy good experience, but it’s something that’s really got me to put more thought into how I think. I don’t project myself well enough and it’s something I can improve on.
