The most Important part is "They Were All loyal to King Christian". This makes a big impact on the rest of the book because if the Danes weren't loyal, they would not have looked to him every time they had a problem

This line shows that The Danes are so confident about their king that they don't even want a bodyguard for King Christian. This goes even more to the fact later that they look to him every time they have a problem.
Line 4
War is spreading across Europe, and King Christian cannot stop it. The Nazis are trying to claim Denmark, so they hang their flag on the palace. Like I said, the Danes are loyal to King Christian, so they see what he wants to do. 
Line 5
When A Nazi Soldier threatens to shoot whoever takes down the flag, the King, instead of trying to back down or start a fight, tells the Nazis to shoot him. The Nazis didn't fly the flag again. This shows that King Christian is calm, but can always be trusted to get the job done for the Danes. I also don't understand the Nazis. Why did they not hang the flag? They can't be scared of Denmark!

The sentence "`The Missing flag became a symbol of Resistance, and Danes did not mind passing the palace to see where it once hung" Means that the Danes are not giving up easily to resist the Nazis. The sentence "Yet it was only a small victory, for the Kings greatest challenge was still there to come"Means that the Nazis were still trying to invade.

I also think that the author is giving us a clue by repeating an object (Lise's trunk).
Lise's trunk is repeatedly brought up in the story, In my words, I think that Lise's trunk has personal things and things that were very important to her, and every parent, in this case Lise's parents would be happy to see their daughter happy, which tells us why they never open the trunk even though it's brought up often. If they opened the trunk it would bring them emotional memories, and it is hard for them to bring up a topic of their loss.
